Hi allerseits, meine Uni hat heute irgendeine Adler-Schreibmaschine weggeworfen und ich bin ihr über den Weg gelaufen. Die Keycaps hab ich direkt abgezogen, Ergebnis seht ihr hier:



Die Caps haben eine sehr angenehme Wandstärke und sehen aus wie neu, werden jetzt auf meiner G80 ihren Platz finden

Are they from a Gabriele or a Compacta ?
Either way, VERY NICE caps !!

PS : That's a REAL 'Spacebar' !
It will not fit on any 'modern' keyboards

If you turn all the caps upside-down and take a photo -
It'll be the first (known) photo ever of the backside of a complete set !

That will be the first 8.5 units space bar in the Wiki.

Cooler Tipp, danke! Solche elektrischen Schreibmaschinen findet man ja lokal / auf Flohmärkten noch öfter mal. Falls Du die nochmal fotografierst, könntest du auch ein Foto von der Seite machen, auf dem man das Profil der Kappen sieht? Oder das beim Auswechseln mal mit den G80-Kappen vergleichen?

It was a TRIUMPH/ADLER Modell BSM 100 SC, The Spacebar is actually 8 units when the caps are mounted, it just looks bigger becuase the caps were lying so close together.

The profile matches the standard Cherry one (it had kinda MY switches underneath).

Bottom-up pic of at least one will follow.

wow !! ( = 'sehr schön' ) It even has a floppy-drive AND space for a second, apparently ?
Does it also have a serial-interface so it can be connected to a PC ?
(I wonder what it cost when it was new !)

It looked really awesome and was in mint condition, apparently some professor must've gotten himself a top model back in the days and rarely used it or kept it in some place away from the sun. I left the typewriter itself at the site, so just the caps are with me, but they feel really awesome on my G80 with blues.

( Sorry for the English in the German section, but my German grammar SUXX !

Well, that is one of my my concerns with cannibalising typewriters :

I'm old enough to remember that the good ones cost A LOT of money back then !
People didn't just buy them on impulse, because they cost several months wages.

Since Olivetti owned TA for some years ..
I wouldn't be surprised if a few Olivetti-typewriters share hardware !
The colour-scheme looks very much like the Cherry/Olivetti-board, doesn't it ??

PS : The caps are not ABS-plastic, so they don't really 'yellow' due to UV-exposure

Ich kann jeden gut verstehen, der Schreibmaschinen sammelt, sie sind faszinierend und oft schön und sind interessante Technikgeschichte. Wenn ich mehr Platz hätte, wer weiß ...

Auf der anderen Seite gab es aber einfach unglaublich viele davon in jedem Büro und jedem Privathaushalt, und es ist eine völlig überholte und überflüssig gewordene Technik. Die Teile wurden und werden in riesigen Mengen in den Müll gegeben, wenn Privatleute oder Firmen ihre Speicher aufräumen. Und da landen auch die vom Flohmarkt im Allgemeinen, wenn die Verkäufer die klobigen Dinger dreimal zum Flohmarkt mitgenommen und nie verkauft haben.

Insofern -- klar ist es immer besser, wenn man die ganze Maschine am Leben halten kann, und bei manchem Modellen findet sich da vielleicht auch jemand, der das will. Aber das Schicksal der meisten ist halt früher oder später nun mal der Schrott, und da habe ich dann auch wenig Bedenken, Teile davon, die man tatsächlich noch im Alltag verwenden kann, zu retten.

DIe Parallele zu Tastaturen drängt sich auf. Ich weiß -- wenn man dran denkt, wieviele alte geniale Tastaturen schon im Schrott gelandet sind -- das ist schon grausam. Aber selbst wenn man sich hier im Forum mal realistisch umschaut, ist der Anteil an Leuten, die tatsächlich alte Tastaturen entweder sammeln oder gar täglich benutzen, doch relativ klein -- die meisten kaufen neue, obwohl es sehr schöne alte zu im Verhältnis zu neuen ziemlich niedrigen Preisen gibt. Ich bin da mit meiner SGI Granite und der Cherry G80-3000 von 1992, die ich täglich benutze, eher die Ausnahme. Das ist alte Tenik, die man im Unterschied zu den Schreibmaschinen noch einsetzen könnte, wenn man denn wollte, und es wird trotzdem kaum getan.

Hey, unsere hier im Büro wird durchaus noch verwendet. :p
