Hmm, IJKL would be slightly better than OKL; but still better than WASD (for me) and it does put PgUp/PgDn in a very nice location. I own a Poker (mx red) which is nice, but I like the layout on the KBTalking Pure better (the ANSI, small enter version).
Both the Poker and KBTalking Pure have a better layout than the HHKB, which wastes prime locations for things like PrtSc, and has the arrows in a horrible place. At that price point, the HHKB should at least have the 2nd layer programmable by the user.
At least they could have dropped the wasd thing at put the cursors on the home position. The HHKB is very logical: you have up and down in large steps (home, end), then smaller steps (pgup, pgdn) and finally the smallest step - the diamond arrow cluster. You can even do one-handed moving! That was made me finally realise how good this layout it. Before that I wouldn't want to buy it because I wanted vi arrows :|

The layout is just too weird. The <Alt Gr> key is also in the wrong position if you have gone accustomed to where it is on Windows-keyboards and older G80-1[1]800s (the two layouts that I use).

You gotta put the FN key somewhere! It's inevitably going to move another key a little bit.

Why don't they just make the damn thing programmable and be done with it? It would only add a few euros/dollars to the overall cost. That would be a much more useful feature than silly LEDs under the keys.

i think the "it would only cost a few cents more" argument was discussed a lot in the past, and nothing changes

Maybe. But has anyone actually told the manufacturer that keymap programmability is a feature we would value? I realise that Unicomp might be a lost cause. But some of the far east manufacturers are more receptive to customer feedback.

They might be assuming that the facility is not needed because their customers will mostly be gamers, and most games already provide the facility to remap keys.

Matter of opinions and personal needs. Surely the retroillumination is anything but silly.

Don't know, but I could Imagine that they would fear the investment needed to implement new features.

Why isn't the HHKB programmable at around $300 ? At that price, this omission actually scandalous.

It's hard to be scandalous in Japan.

looking forward to this yay :)

The HHKB layout is perfect as my onliest issue with the poker is the lack of f5 and arrows keys.
Now I got the keyboard i realized i used those buttons like there was no end.. XD
But I know i would get a few issue with such a small keyboard,
I really like it its very compact!

If KBTalking Pure can be fully programmable like the Rapoo v7, it's gonna kill KBC/Noppoo/and even HHKB !

^sure will!
if it is affordable, hehe.

Sixty could you ask if they can do clears too, or are those phased out in Asia?
I forgot where they got removed from the production line >_>..

Is this coming with proper ISO-combability, meaning the extra key too with the Enter?

How about programmability of the 2nd layer? If they do it that's an HHKB killer right there.

Is the KBDTalking Pure with these changes going to be sold by KBC?

Or will there be TWO version sharing the same PCB and case?

Has anyone out there actually thought of replacing the caps-lock key with the return/enter key? Would seem more ergonomic for a right-hander. Ability to press enter faster with your right hand. In fact I'm ashamed to say this but I've never actually meaningfully pressed caps-lock before. I just prefer using my shift key. Probably a stupid idea.

KBC represents China and KBT represents Taiwan.
But KBDTalking Race and Pure will be selling in China by KBC. But KBT will still be distributing in Taiwan.(That's what i think)

what do you mean two version? you mean the layout? i can't confirm the layout at the moment, but if what you mention is about last old design of big ass "Enter" key, that design has been replace with this.

For the current time, this is the latest design being mention by them.

frankbartoli wrote:when start the preorder?
The pre-order has already started few month back, at March 2011.

But it seems they faced a lot of problems and things get delay and plan changes, like changing Enter key, Layout design, promised wood casing changed to Aluminium Anodize, and blablabla.

For KBTalking Pure, there's still not a release date being announce, and there's no Sample Unit being reviewed yet.

For KBTalking Race, it's already been announce and will start selling at December 1st.
