Hi,

Would it be theoretically possible to cut off the numpad part of the a Model M, effectively turning it into a "Space Saver"? Or would the electronics inside get messed up?

No need for cutting the membrane. You can simply wrap it around.
Edit: simply said. It is easily possible. You can even glue the leds some where else...
Edit2: but you would need to do a bolt mod...

Any tip on how to cut the case and glue it back together without looking like a mess? I want do something similar to a Wyse terminal keyboard. Thanks.

Make precise marking before cutting. Cut very precisely, using a larger "razor saw" or superfine hacksaw. Cut just a little bit outside the marks and remove the rest with sandpaper -- but to sand straight, do it very carefully using sandpaper glued to a flat, rigid piece of metal that is a bit larger than the surface to be sanded.

I have shortened one board. but I painted it over afterwards. It has a smooth surface, unlike the original keyboard.
Primarily, I used pieces of the keyboard itself dissolved in acetone to create "ABS slush" to use as putty.

There was a guy who also used ABS slush but to preserve the texture of the keyboard, he (I think it was a he) made silicone molds of parts of the exterior before cutting the case. When reattaching the parts of each half of the case, he did so on top of the molds with ABS slush in the gaps in-between case parts.

By the way, there is such a thing as textured paint that you could use. Put it together using glue and with putty in the gaps. Sand smooth and paint with primer before painting with the textured paint.

for precise sanding, rather than using sandpaper on metal, I prefer sandpaper on a sheet of glass. Trick I learned messing with old cars, use that as well for e.g. truing up old oil pump covers etc.

In order to do what you want, you have to take the barrel assembly completely apart. To put it back together, you need to do a bolt mod

Just to note, I'm pretty sure this doesnt work with newer Model Ms and Unicomps.
