keyboard maintenance

Newbie question: I've been using a DAS Pro S for the past three months or so and so far, I've been using this black cloth that came with the unit to clean it of dust and lint. I'm wondering if any of you have suggestions/advice about how else I can keep my keyboard clean and functional. Is there a cover I can buy to protect it or some special microfiber cloth I can use to clean it?

How do you guys keep your keyboards clean and well-maintained?

I don't clean keyboards unless they are so filthy that I am disgusted or there is a functional problem. Both do not happen without spilling something on them.

That being said I have this Cherry giveaway brush and a self-made tiny nozzle for my vacuum cleaner.

I use a feather duster about once a day. It's gentile and it keeps my 'boards looking like new. I also take care to not eat by my keyboards and washing my hands regularly.

I just stopped smoking, that makes my board fairly clean.

@Icarium: I like the nozzle from the vacuum cleaner idea. I wonder if you can use the brush heads that come with electric shavers. I have one that I don't use.

I use the keyboard brush I got from Robin (Cherry Branded, yay!). Otherwise I don't clean my keyboards except when they are really dirty.

Vacuum clean over the keys every week with the brush nozzle that came with the vacuum cleaner.

lol.

your general daily wipedown should be sufficient to keep your treasures shiny. get a keypuller and canned air if you feel inclined to get dust, dandruff, hair, and other undesireables out of your equipment every month or so.

@swagpiratex: Canned air. Good advice. Thank you, sir!

If a keyboard is really dirty, I spray it with dishwashing liquid through a Karcher high pressure washer, then vacuum the water out.
If a keyboard isn't really dirty, I don't bother. It's a tool that's meant to be used. Granted, I'm not a collector. The aforementioned thorough cleaning about once in a year works for me.

That's like treating a Ferrari like an ATV.

If you don't take care of your high performance "tool", it will fail on you. Be it Ferrari, 1911, Ducati, or AR-15.

This is why most people can't have nice things.
