Well, the thread title does say "ideas". But the extreme boutique oddity that is the HHKB HG isn't what I'd call custom. There's another word for it. Insane!
This is their spin on replacement lid for a scanner.
Decoration is one thing, but Japan knows how to do mind warping high end substance too. Nikon made a legendary lens you could choose to pick up in person from the factory. They would do a formal ceremony for you, where the lens was blessed by a Shintō priest. How thoughtful!

These dyed caps look really nice: http://www.flickr.com/photos/o2dazone/6824827269/
So dyeing your white caps is an option to customize your HHKB.

Indeed. I didn't have the time to look into that yet + I want to try it on some other caps first to lower the risk of ruining the capsMuirium wrote:A costly kind of cheap!

You can try removing the branding. I have seen a guide.

I may be derailing the thread a bit but...
Where do you find these replacement keycaps for the HHKB Pro 2? I'd only need a few colored keys and a HHKB keypuller.
A friend of mine is coming to visit from Japan soon so links from Japan may be OK (amazon.co.jp would do for sure, but I couldn't find anything besides complete sets of keys on amazon.co.jp because my japanese-fu isn't very strong).
Links from Europe would be even better : )

EK has a selection of Topre caps, in America. As I understand, you can mix HHKB and Realforce caps, but I own neither so I'd check this with those who do.
Dyeing white HHKB blanks (or I suppose even dyesubs) works too. Look around for "Rit" being used here, if you're interested.

Ah, no branding is nice. I'll do it someday. Its hub and branding is lame unfortunatley, IMO.
TacticalCoder,
In Japan you can find only replacement key sets from HHKB and Realforce 108 key sets in 5 colors, AFAIK.
If you want fancy caps you'll need a friend in USA or Korea

Ideas? how about exotic caps from vitage Topres?

An easy and conservative customization would be to swap out the keys on the dark gray model with the Topre HHKB Pro 2 white/gray keycap set.
