So I finished my model m bolt mod tonight, it took a few hours but I’m finally finished and everything seems to be working so far. I also took the time to replace the old springs with new ones from unicomp, because of the state I live in and the humidity and salinity in the air I took the time to wipe down the steel back plate with heavy duty corrosion x, I also apples some to the new springs by using a glove and lightly coating my index finger and thumb in the corrosion x before rubbing the springs between those two fingers giving the springs a very light coat of rust protection.
Over all the keys feel 100x more sturdy, there less wiggly and cheap feeling which is good, however my keyboard isn’t as loud as it used to be, the key presses are more muffled then before which is really disappointing for me as I was already disappointed in how soft it was before the mod when compared to my mx greens. I haven’t decided if I want to go in again at a later time to take out the rubber mat to make it louder, I’m still not 100% sure on that one yet though as it seems like only a few people have done it and it doesn’t seem like we know for sure what impact that has on the membrane….I’m probably going to open it up again eventually as it seems like I forgot to put the rubber tubing back in…doesn’t seem to be too big of a problem yet though, ,might as well replace that too with some old air pump tubing while I’m at it.
I wonder what the keyboard would sound like if it had metal pivot plates…maybe once metal 3d printing becomes more common lol. Overall I think it was worth it.
