I like small heavy things. The stock Poker 2 is okay, but I wanted something heavier.

I bought an aluminium case from a forum member, but at 400g it didn't quite feel heavy enough.

I cut some strips of lead flashing, used by roofers, and stuck them inside the aluminium case using double sided foam tape..

The case now weighs just over 800g and the assembled keyboard is 1.2kg - about 3 times that of the stock Poker 2.

Many people will probably think I'm nuts doing this, but the finished board feels great. Really sturdy.

• Blue ISO return key
• Granite backslash
• Red 1.25 mod key - META, HYPER, blank or anything that will fit...

Good grief. I thought the stock plastic case was fine — the steel plate adds all the weight I thought was necessary.

Yes, it's completely unnecessary, but it feels wonderfully heavy now... It's as though it's locked in place, held down by magnets.

Perhaps I really am nuts...

You could of course just screw it to the table …

Ha, nice! I sold the case because it was too heavy for me, obviously it wasn't "too heavy" enough for you .

Ripster posted a guide on Geekhack, pre-r00tw0rm, on casting lead ballast blocks melted over the backyard grill and cast into wood-and-aluminum foil molds.

Maybe it is still there on readit.

Ripster was smelting lead? That explains a few things…

i think i need to do this with my beam spring , its just not heavy enough

also uranium 238 is about as poisons as lead , you know if you ignore the gamma radiation, its safe enough as long as you don't eat it same as lead

so i would line that poker with 238 if i was you
