it's called we love that your a keyboard enthousiast so let's just pretent this board has a 0 less in the price so it's $25.

i'm reading this book now and i totally agree...

It's all fun and games, until someone's parcel gets lost in the mail; and they get paid out 25$ by the shipping insurance...
You can't ask people to break the rules on you behalf, there's plenty of proxy shipping companies that will let you declare whatever you like. Use them, and accept responsibility if it goes tits up...

not a fan of police, emergency services etc eh?
There's a middle ground, but I don't think it's human nature to seek that out. Anarchy (which isn't what the majority of the population think it is) and Voluntaryism are good in theory, but in practice, I think it's just as practical as Communism and Socialism, which is not.

But this is OT for this thread, so I'll let it drop.

If you're going to post links, can you expand them and tell what they are? I let it pass the first time and clicked. This time I didn't. If you don't want to go to the effort to explain and expand it, then I don't want to go to the effort of clicking it.

Looks like this thread is going pretty off-topic here which I don't mind personally. I've had my fair share of shipping troubles TuxKey so I know how seriously upsetting that can be.

According to our stats there are 353 users online right now and it feels like I'm talking to myself here.

We are mostly lurking and reading everyone's posts here, so don't get confused about ever being alone. There's enough perv's about spying on what everyone else is doing and posting.

Oh I know I'm not alone here, I hope I'm not acting like that. Not sure how many "perv's" we have here, I wouldn't assume anything bad by default.

No offense ever taken and trust me your description fits nearly everyone here on this site, let alone the whole internet.

was looking at the WhiteFox Kickstart and how it’s doing..
The project raised $281,488 with a goal of $100,000..
impressive i’m very happy to see the project do so well.

i’m very happy that this keyboard will be a reality and we can order it.
I heard about the NightFox to be honest i prefer the WhiteFox but that’s just me.

i’m still hopeful one day i’l see the WhiteFox Vanilla layout sold in Europe.
Perhaps even with backlighting ..
my favourite layout..

That's actually no problem, in the FAQ section of the campaign, Input Club said:

"Early adopters who want a NightFox need to add +$20 to their pledge and we will take care of this with a Backer Survey at the end of the campaign."

To be honest not really i want to wait and see how i like the k-type that should be in around the end of the year.
i do have a list of preferences i would love to see in a board.

- fully programmable
- backlighting (no need for rgb but if it is ok) (for those late night typing sessions)
- standard keycap sizing (if i can i would like to avoid the hassle i have with my current FC660M )

i like to replace my FC660M with a whiteFox vanilla i would prefer a board with this (see spoiler) layout but that doesn't exist as
far as i know.. who knows perhaps one day we wil see a WhiteFox 2.0 with the same backlighting as the K-type and perhaps switch swapping. it does have a usb-c connector witch is way better in handling frequent cable swapping.
to be frank if mykeyboard.eu sold a vanilla layout with halo true switches before my dream layout comes out i would probably swap my FC660M with mx-clears for it.. Although that board is pretty valuable because Leopold doesn't make mx-clear boards anymore. :geek:
Spoiler:
standard keycap size with arrow cluster.

I have ordered both a WhiteFox and a NightFox, but my dream layout is very similar to yours. Maybe we should get something made?

Wow that looks good :-) I guess waiting for input club to make something like that is going to take for ever. Perhaps an interest check is in order hahaha we can't be the only ones that like a compact keyboard that has all standard key caps sizes and an arrow cluster?? Something made ?? For two that's sounds expensive as hell hahaha. Btw I love your render did you make it ? The space between the arrow cluster and the keys to the left why is that?

Yeah, I guess I meant more like an interest check.

To keep all the keys standard size. I guess one of the modifiers is 1.5u in your layout?

To be honest i don't know e fellow DT member bade the board and i was impressed by it.
i really like your layout if it's programmable and has backlighting i'm in...

BTW Kickstart WhiteFox is almost ending 65hours to go.. raised $335,704 with 1706 backers very impressive.
If all goes well will see the WhiteFox in stores in Europe. only hope to see more layouts the one i want Vanilla is a must for me..

But your keyboards looks way better to me... :ugeek:

I ponied up the money for the WhiteFox - first time mechanical keyboard purchase. Figured I'd go with the best.

While I knew there would probably be customs fees of some sort, living here in Italy, seeing figures on here like an additional 200 euros is horrifying. Not to mention however much longer the delay.

@Matt3o - You're in Italy (I think). How much do you pay for these in customs fees when they send you a prototype or demo or something of the sort? And any advice for people in Italy who have ordered?

One more question! By the time these are produced and shipped (6+ months) I may well be in a different part of the EU. Will a kickstarter supporter be able to change country (assuming the same $25 fee) at the time of shipment without too much trouble?

Thanks!

I don't usually pay custom taxes on prototypes when I do not pay for them. They are shipped as "prototypes" or "not for resell" with a very low value (again, when I don't pay for them).

Importing to Italy is about €12+22%.

If you let us know your new address soon enough we should be able to change your shipping label!

Ciao, Matt3o -

My understanding is that sometime around December (or later) when they are ready to ship, we'll be received e-mails asking for an address. Is that still correct? After all, I never supplied an address when I signed up for the kickstarter.

Thanks.

That whole thing with MD and the halo switches is pretty weak on MD's part. Not a good way to generate goodwill. When you guys develop details on the new switch design do you mind sharing on these forums?

Instead of just posting a veiled statement about the situation at hand (especially as some on this thread might not know)- from IC's latest update on the Whitefox.
"We also have encountered some unexpected push-back from one of our former partners, Massdrop, on the topic of the Halo switches. We (Input Club) developed and invented the Halo switches, and worked with Massdrop to finance the physical tooling that allows them to go to mass production. We assigned Massdrop the patent rights in exchange for a royalty and a “license-back” that we believe allows us to source the switches for use in keyboards. But when we tried to order switches for the WhiteFox/NightFox, Massdrop would not let us source them. They then claimed to own the “Halo” name and asked us to give up the license-back altogether, so we would essentially lose all access to our own invention. This is very confusing for us at Input Club, as we are mostly a team of engineers and are not used to dealing with people who act in this manner. Unfortunately, we don’t have any more information right now as to how the situation will unfold."
My response on the whole thing, with only I:C's side:
This seems a lot like burning someone at the stake before hearing both sides. This was posted, and apparently done before even a hearing. Massdrop can't move as well as a group like input club can as far as posting.
Legal ramifications, and what can be said and not on the situation must be considered. And there is also the anti-massdrop group that would love to see support for MD cancel, so they stoke up the flames of the pitchfork carrying villagers.

So, without knowing the specifics, people rush to pillory them. There is an agreement in place- an agreement that I:C signed. They say that "we believe allows us to source the switches for use in keyboards." That's the kind of thing that you get lawyers to put in place an ironclad agreement, and that you know exactly what your rights are. A patent is valuable, and not something you fly by night on nor think nor believe anything about.

Unfortunately, I think there's a lot we'll never know. But I for one, am waiting for Massdrop's response before deciding based on the evidence that is available at that time.
And a follow up question- it appears a lot of this is because I:C tried to go directly to Kailh without MD's involvement, and Kailh said, nope, not without MD's ok. Is that a correct assessment of the exchange that has not been totally open and transparent?

Up until now the wherefore's of what's gone on and fault have been pretty open and reasonably civilized based on the limitations of both parties. This whole thing has not smacked of that same respect, so I'm a bit confused...

On the face of it, it appears as though there is disagreement over what the "license-back" part of the contract allows I:C to do with their own invention. I suspect that if this disagreement had been clear (to both sides) before the contracts were signed, there would have been no movement forward on the production of the switches while I:C went looking for another partner willing to abide by the license-back portion of the deal. But now it's a little too late and it will be up to lawyers to work out how to settle the disagreement after the fact.

We know little to nothing about the particulars of the contracts (and I doubt we ever will), but as principals, I was hoping that matt3o and someone from I:C could provide a bit more clarity than the kickstarter update that's being bandied about.

people like to make a lot of assumptions. the above is incorrect in so many ways that I wouldn't even know where to start to make it right. MD and/or IC will make things clear if they want to, but people should calm down. this things happen every day in business. it will be sorted out eventually.

How is the statement incorrect in so many ways, if I might ask? It's a simple statement (deliberately so), so I'm even more confused? I'm not trying to present this in a not calm way, and apologies if it seems so. But that seems like a very simple clarification, especially given the two statements that have been given so far.

And if you do not wish to become involved in this discussion here, that's reasonable also, so just let me know if so.

I know very little about the situation, and I don't like to say something if I don't have anything to say...
