Now that I have the opportunity to type on SA caps... I would def. vote for option 2. Where is the poll?

I believe we'd go DSA.

SA misses some keys and it would be expensive to make the mold for them all.

Okay, that is unfortunate of course. Looking forward to see some mockups soon : )

And double shot SA means the standard SP font?

Still PBT dye sub?

if this will ever happen it should be: DSA + PBT + DyeSub

With double shot we are of course limited to SP legends.

I really like the language options, gonna get a set no matter which option goes through!

This time: PBT dyesub DSA.
Next time: PBT dyesub SA?

PBT + Helvetica is more easily appealing to me than SP font double shot.

next time will be SA for sure :)

Samwisekoi and I are working on a "nuclear" set since forever... it might become true really soon

Remember to add Space Cadet colours and APL legends to your long list of im-fricking-possible to refuse group buys! Yikes.

This GB will fail because I couldn't get a scan of the beige/white/gray color chips... I can buy one at SP but it will take 3/4 weeks to arrive.

07 Jul 2013, 11:09

Who are you relying on to supply the scan? Can SP not provide that?

I recommend you get the color samples. It is much better to have them in hand instead of having to rely on photos.

apparently they can't or don't want to.

I will. See you next month :P

We can wait. SP's full sets of PBT and ABS samples, across the key cap spectrum, would be ideal. Photos only sample three points in the spectrum (RGB) and can't match the real thing even when colour corrected (as each photo's R, G and B components are skewed to balance the rest). When you have plastic in hand, you can compare against anything you like in live lighting conditions. Invaluable!

I agree, but I also think that a good photo would suffice :)

Anyway tomorrow I'll ask SP for the color rings, problem is that they rarely have the complete set and they send you just the colors available at the moment.

Emphasis on the monochrome / beige spectrum of course. Lemon, cyan and magenta aren't quite as relevant…

Did you manage to get the colour samples?

BTW, Pantone was invented to relieve this situation ...

matt3o, are you coming to Mr Interface's keyboard party in three weeks? In that case, someone who has SP colour samples could bring them there and you could discuss the colours in person with more members.

Nope! You lazy! :P
Findecanor wrote:BTW, Pantone was invented to relieve this situation ...
SP is unable to provide Pantone for their color samples. Already tried that. Also, the same SP color code not always would have the same Pantone since colors slightly change from batch to batch.

I don't think I'll show up, but a friend recently moved to NL... it might be the right time to meet him in the north.

We probably wont, and neither will the Norwegians, if it ends up being Swedish as 'Nordic'-layout .
Here is why :

(I believe the '§'-cap is actually wrong ? Isn't it supposed to be like on the Danish layout, just 'up-side down' ?)

So, Swedes don't need a language-pack of their own if it already includes the caps for German and Danish/Norwegian ..

I vote for : 1) DSA PBT Dye-Sub from SP

Scrutinising the layouts, I've got to say that Denmark's is the odd one out. ASDFGHJKLÆØ! Huh? Come on, you guys did that on purpose! Germany: ÖÄ. Sweden: ÖÄ. So far so good, and Norway? ØÆ Okay, different but still the O variant first and the A second. And Denmark? Uh, Denmark? … Screw this. Put the buggers backwards!

I hate to think what Scottish keyboards would look like if we'd had our own standards institute! English! Typin' on oor boards! Nevvur!

Back on topic: large language packs are the natural solution to the actual problem. Large as in inclusive! The Swedes and Norwegians end up with all your keys and vice versa. In fact why not the Germans too? Or all of us on ISO. The MOQ is the obstacle. A few extra caps isn't going to hurt if more people can get in and get what they want.

Not that I know the least bit about the details…

I really don't get why you even have an opinion on this Mu ...
And you seem to be missing my point, that Swedish doesn't even need a language-pack, provided
it contains German and Danish/Norwegian caps .
I hate to think what Scottish keyboards would look like if we'd had our own standards institute! English!
Typin' on oor boards! Nevvur!
Well, the way things are going over there, you probably will have to think about it soon ?

The way to do this is :
1 base-set covering UK-ISO and US-ANSI
1 language-pack, containing ALL the languages .
Yes, I will have to pay for caps that I have no use for, like German QWERTZ ..
Likewise, Germans will have to pay for caps they have no need for, f.ex ÆØÅ .
So, who wants to trade a bunch of Danish-language caps for a bunch of German-language caps ?

User avatar
Halvar

14 Jul 2013, 23:25

I agree, but it also could be:

1 base set covering keys that are common to all sets
1 set having the extra keys for US-ANSI
1 set having the extra keys for the other languages

I would like to keep it simple, so ideally 1 set with all languages. They are all 1u, it shouldn't be terribly expensive. The alternative would be to split it into 2-3 groups (based on common keys).

DSA PBT Dye Subbed FTW

Gilgam should agree with me : you totally should consider to add a bépo language kit with at least É È À Ê and Ç
The number row is, as always, the most changing part and since it's DSA it could be simplified with using numpad parts.

Moreover, I'm in for a squirrel super key, or a barn swallow or an octopus (or a red panda ;) ) in a sober understated shadow-graphed style.

edit : Futura is a good choice but it's tempting to choose a monospaced font as Courrier or Terminal

You should hear me on feminism. As for Scottish Indy, I'm for it but the polls say "naw!" Pity. Could be our one chance to go ANSI!
