Done.

And my calculator says € 111.11 + 3.4% + 0.35 = 115.23774 and it's not been drinking…

It seems to depend on where you're sending the money from. Paypal wanted 3.9% + € 0.35 from me.

I actually get charged zero when sending Euro gift transfers. (I expect they get their cut by fiddling the GBP exchange rate.) Wonder how much Matt actually sees from this one? Paypal doesn't show me. Whatever, it's his tip!

Paid!

They apply the fee on the TOTAL not to the sum you are requesting.

115.38 × 0.034 + 0.35 = 4,27
115.38 - 4,27 = 111,11

This is the summary page for who paid 115.38

We made it already! Sweet.

Re: the pennies. Oops. I'll make it up on the next thing (internal components) which you're shipping to me with this anyway.

This is what happens when Paypal keeps things opaque. I pay by direct debit, so my fee is "zero" on most transactions. When it's the other person who's paying, they don't show me the details.

"opaque"? Is that one of those famous English understatements :)

We use those in Scotland too. Paypal is pretty much the dictionary definition of the word. That's their business model!

I like how you take distance from England :)

Unfinished business…

(They're not that bad, really. But Scotland might as well be a thousand miles north of London sometimes. The same is true for much of England itself. One big city and you have a nation with severe myopia.)

I must go visit Scotland sooner or later...

a (Scottish) friend of mine told me not to come unless I like sheep and rain :)

PS: small talk waiting for the plates to be ready :D

That's next week, at the soonest. We can wait.

Scotland's just like anywhere else in Europe when it comes to seeing animals. You're more likely to bump into a husky or an Afghan hound unless you head right out of town. Which I do frequently on my bike, so I see them and these guys. He wasn't kidding about the rain though. The Atlantic Ocean throws a hell of a lot of that at us.

I've not been to Wales, but I have seen Italy. On the train from Naples to Rome I'm sure I saw some sheep out of the window… They're stealing our technology!

I saw your Steel Beauty thread the other day and was blown away by your 65% layout. I can't believe I missed out on such an opportunity to have one of my own D:

As it happens, Steely's plate is spare if you want to try restoring the 65% to beat them all. Matt3o let me have it to see if I liked typing on steel (I do) but I don't have the right set of caps to actually use it. Here's the plate wearing some juicy Round 4 Sphericals to tempt you!

I can't speak for Matt, but depending how well my keyboard build works out, I could be interested in another round sometime.

what else you need to build the keyboard.

The following is a list of unordered stuff you need to complete your keyboard.
  • USB socket -OR- mini-usb cable. To connect the teensy to the PC. You can go straight from the teensy to the PC with a mini-usb cable but you need a raw mini usb male plug because you have very little space in the inside and standard usb cable sockets are wrapped around a lot of plastic. You can also take a standard cable and sand all the plastic around the plug. If you plan to use a female socket you need both the USB mini socket AND and extension cable that goes from the teensy to the socket. I suggest you to get a short usb mini cable, cut out the standard usb male and solder the wires to the female socket.
  • 2.5M screws and 2.5M nuts. Length depends on the height of the keyboard. You won't find screws of the right size, you'll need to cut them. So take a hacksaw or a dremel (suggested).
  • Heat shrinking wires even though not strictly necessary I would recommend taking some of them in misc sizes
  • If you have holes in the middle of the aluminum plate you need a couple of standoff. I suggest nylon 9mm ones. This is not needed for steel plate.
  • Electrical wires. Take several colors so you can easily track them.
  • Enough 1N4148 diodes. I took these http://it.farnell.com/jsp/search/produc ... KU=1612346
  • Rubber (or whatever) feet
  • Soldering iron and soldering wire
  • Enough stabilizers for your keyboard
  • Lots of patience.
Today I'm probably placing an order of some of the above. I'll take more than I need, if you want something just let me know and I'll add it to your package.
