[orders closed] 2x unit Plate mount Cherry stabs

I'm placing an order with mouser and want to get to a point where the goods cost more than the postage...I'm currently splitting 20 stabs between 2 people so if anyone else wants in we can tilt the postage:cost ratio a little more in our favour.

We are ordering these
http://uk.mouser.com/ProductDetail/CHER ... YCKUV3Hw==
and are currently at the 20 unit price point. Post here if you''re interested, I'll be ordering on Friday.

edit - Europe only please.

edit 24/3 - Updated order list below.

What exactly do you get if ordering one unit? Two stabilizer bases, two stabilizer tops and one stab wire for a 2u cap?

If so then I'm in for 10 units.

by HzFaq
Yeah, sorry, 1 unit is enough to stabilize 1 key (shift, enter, backspace size).

at about 50 pence each I'd take about 20 or so
esp as this is a UK group buy

I'd take 15-20. How much would be shipping to Germany?

Posted: 22 Mar 2014, 13:23
by matt3o
I'd also like to take a bunch, but being shipping from mouser to me free, I don't know if it's really worth the effort. Real price drop happens at 1000.

how much would be shipping?

This isn't so much a "lets hit the cheapest price point" thing, its more a "I'm ordering anyway, if someone wants to jump on so they/I don't have to pay £12 postage for £10 worth of stabs they can" thing.

Postage from UK to most of Europe is probably going to be like £2 for a bubble mailer unless you're ordering a crazy amount.

Make that £3 shipping. (4 €?) I just posted a lot of people a few Teensies each and it was very consistent across Europe. £1 for inside Britain though.

Turning to Cherry stabs at last, eh?

I have a few of my own already. But if you guys need help reaching a higher tier. Oh, plate mount? That's more interesting. What is this free shipping of which you speak, Matt?

if shipping is around £2 and you are willing to ship to Italy, I can take a dozen, but if by ordering few more we reach a better tier I can add some. Thanks! (PS: if shipping is really £4 maybe it's already out of the comfort zone)

nope, but I've never used (or seen) plate mounted cherry stabs, and I like to try everything. costar is still my master.
Muirium wrote:What is this free shipping of which you speak, Matt?
order more than €25 and shipping is free. Since I often buy screws, diodes, switches...

Well, I am after some screws as well actually…

Shipping is definitely £3.00 precisely right now for any smallish bubble mailer. I gathered up a random assortment of them for the Teensy GB, and everywhere from Ireland to Russia was the exact same price. Including Italy. Could definitely have put a good number of stabs into those envelopes as well as Teensies.

This still makes me laugh! Royal Mail aren't bad at all (in fact, much more reliable and timely than Irish Mail from my experiences), but I still find this crazy.

You should see the way our postie parks right across the bottom of the street…

I presume it's something to do with crossing borders. Should be the same in reverse, right? Russia did surprise me, though. They're not exactly itching to join the EU these days!

Sure, but I mean it's probably £1 to to Newry in NI, yet 30 minutes extra in the car to Dundalk in the Republic is immediately as expensive as Russia!

I can get free shipping if the order is over £50, which is around 100 units, which makes the total cost for 1 stabilizer 0.52p so I think this is where we should be aiming. Rough estimate is that we are at around 70 units so if a few more people order we should be able to get there.

I think this is a good chance and would take 12 if still possible - located in germany.

I'll update the OP this evening or tomorrow with current numbers, I can't order until I get paid on Friday so this will stay open until then.

Oh great, I'd like to order a few (probably one 'full set') as well.

OP's been updated with the current order count with a question mark where the phrase "or so" has been used ;). Let me know here if you want me to change any numbers around.

Add me for 5, would you HzFaq? I might be strapped at the mo, but that's just not something to turn down!

Ok, I've added the new orders and updated the total, I'll be contacting people for confirmation and money tomorrow.

Good to know. I thought I will never get these without overpaying. Just to make sure, we can pay with paypal, right?

by HzFaq
Ok, orders closed, I'll be contacting people this evening.

Paypal is fine; gift for the exact amount or services +3.4% and 20p I think, I'll double check later but I think that's right. Gifting makes things easier, but I understand why people don't like doing it.

Going with Muirium's postage costs above it'll be £1 to the UK and £3 to the rest of Europe (in a bubble mailer), and we're looking at a shade over 53p per unit.. See below...

edit - Bollocks, didn't factor in VAT  ...looking like another 10.5p per unit making (almost exactly) 0.63p each, is everyone still cool with this? Sorry, total brainfart on my behalf for not realising the VAT wasn't included in the price.

It's totally fine. Oh, and thanks for doing this. :)

Ok, I've sent out messages to everyone, let me know if you haven't got one or if there's a problem.

Also, I forgot to mention in the PMs but can you please include your username in the paypal notes field.

Righto chaps, I'll let you in on a secret, I ordered these on Friday so they arrived today :D.

I'm going to start packing and sorting tomorrow evening probably and try to get everything posted out before the weekend (no promises on this, my lovely wife needs to do the posting whilst she's looking after our daughter).

Quick heads up: Royal Mail might have put its prices up again. (It's that time of year, I'm told.) I was posting something to Germany today and instead of £3 it was £3.20. Perhaps it was weight, but there was hardly anything extra if so. You might want to try sending one first to get the pricing.
