I found an IBM with 122 keys, they say that the s/n is 1394109, never seen it before. You guys confirm it is a model M and not F right?

Dug out an old IBM (supposedly model M but you can never be sure when you're noob) out of junk pile at work. Missing F3 keycap, cord, at least one of latches is broken.
Primarily intended it to be a hobby project (disassemble, clean, fix, convert to USB, use/sell) but I kinda wondered if it's worth something before I mess with it (also while I search for a bloody hex bit that can reach those 5,5 mm hex screws to disassemble it).

Whoa, that is indeed a Model M, but those caps are by far the most interesting part of the board. Original Cyrillic caps, that is the first time I've seen that on a Model M (there are M2 and Wheelwriter versions) keyboard. The number sublegends are very odd, wonder what those are for.

The Ctrl and Alt keys on the right side also appear to have different legends than the normal ones on the left. Is that a blank key beside Z?emdude wrote: ↑Whoa, that is indeed a Model M, but those caps are by far the most interesting part of the board. I have one exactly like that on Costar 7102B, it inputs a \ when connected.Harshmallow wrote: ↑Those are symbols that will appear when you Shift+number with Russian input enabled. Used on modern keyboards too.emdude wrote: ↑The number sublegends are very odd, wonder what those are for.

Didn't quite notice until you pointed out. Rus might be localized AltGr. The hell is Shift 2 will be a mystery until I figure out cord replacement.

I'd like to sell my IBM 5251 beamspring, since I can't see myself using it. The plates have been derusted and painted, although admittedly rather sloppy, but it does the job. It comes with an xwhatsit's controller, which needed a fix because of some connectivity issues, but now it works just fine. It has German caps.
What could I ask for it?
Edit: Some more notes on the condition: I bought it from Ebay last year or so, it was in pretty bad condition. The foam was replaced with foam rings from Wodan, the sliders unfortunately still rusty, since I haven't gotten around to fix them. All keycaps are there, two (P and some other) are yellowed, some are a bit scratched. I didn't bother cleaning the case, since I was planning to replace it. All in all it's working as is, but you could but some more work into it.

I would be interested in buying it, I live in Italy, UK, and CH, could you please try to get an estimate for the shipping? I guess is not going to be cheap.Nuum wrote: ↑I'd like to sell my IBM 5251 beamspring

Shipping to the UK or Italy would be 16€, if under 5kg, else 21€. Switzerland is much more expensive. I've gotten one more request via PM, but I would like to wait for an estimated price before committing to anything.

There were well more than 10 sold by the same seller on and off ebay for various prices to various DT members. I got my Displaywriter from the same seller as well as a 5251.Phenix wrote: ↑Werent around 10 5251s sold by rustmaster on ebay for around 80€? (@Wodan should know about,, IIRC he got one)

What you originally paid is relative to the value now and what others are willing to pay. Beamspring is an exclusive item.

That 80€ is absolutely no reference after the work that goes into restoring such a keyboard.
"The plates have been derusted and painted" ... bing bing bing
Edit: yeah 200 - 300 would have been my estimate as well, but then I remembered somebody buying one for 400+ recently?

I would value this keyboard at 200-300€ depending on the condition and the quality of the restoration job.
With the buggy XWhatsIt controller (no guarantee it can be fixed) and your own description of the so-so refurb job, I'd say maybe 220€
That's just my personal opinion, I am not basing this on any previous sales or market observation. I have been severely wrong before ... usually a little too low with my estimates.

I'd say €250. That's still a very fair price in Beamspring land.Wodan wrote: ↑I would value this keyboard at 200-300€ depending on the condition and the quality of the restoration job.

Yeah, I was a bit impatient with the paint job, so there are a few drops running down the sides, but with the case on it looks perfectly fine. It's painted white, btw. The xwhatsit is currently held on an angle and works perfectly that way, but it has contact problems when just stuck on normally.
Thanks, guys! I think I have enough opinions now.
