I assumed this to be some intentional Unicode fun.

The whole thing does look a bit like an April fool joke. What kind of switch is this?

Let's see if you guys can figure out how it works.

The second two pictures are very important for the tactility.

Obviously Fujitsu considering the parts inside... I think I know what switch this is, then, amirite? xD

I don't know who made this switch, but it's most definitely not Japanese. The keyboard is from around 1989/90.

Does it use the magnet to achieve tactility???

Really? The spring and slider look identical to those from Fujitsu Oo . The magnet is more ASM style, though.

by jacobolus
So from the force curve: you can press easily to about 2mm down whereupon you hit a solid barrier, but if you press hard enough something flips and you can keep pressing further for another 2.5 mm.

Doesn’t really seem like the best tactile response if the goal is to make typing easy.

Looks almost like a double action switch innit?

I actually thought of a gun trigger first, but with the absolute small forces involved this would be hell of a dangerous gun.

First photo of the three: does the 'contraption' on the bottom contains some liquid? Makes me think about some kind of 'mercury switch' mechanism ... but aren't those just for detonating bombs on hollywood movies?

So what I think I see is a Reed switch behind a diode assembly that does not move, and a steel cylinder fixed in the bottom of the switch that does not seem to move either. Is the steel cylinder (or magnet?) on the first picture the same that's fixed in the bottom of the case in the second picture? Or are there two of them?

I'll assume that there is only one. The cylinder(s) could be magnetic but I rather think that the little black cube might be a little magnet. Maybe both? Also there's a spring and the white slider.

OK, so the magnet probably goes in the top of the slider, the spring curls around the steel cylinder in the bottom. and ends pressing against the magnet. When the slider is depressed, the magnet comes near the reed switch and switches it.

So far, that would be a linear reed keyboard switch. Where does the tactility come from? And why is there a metallic cylinder? And do these two questions relate to each other? ;-)

So, here's my take:
You press the slider, and the spring compresses until the horizontal metal peg reaches the "pockets" here:
peg stops.jpg
peg stops.jpg (210.22 KiB) Viewed 7859 times
As you press further, you work against the magnetic attraction between said peg and the black magnet until you overpower it, which allows the slider to continue downwards activating the reed switch. The vertical peg is just a guide for the spring.

Posted: 18 Apr 2016, 21:29
by chzel
The flaw with my explanation is that the force curve is not that of a spring....
