Like I mentioned yesterday, here are some more pictures of this G80-1800HCF. Featuring, the switches we've all come to appreciate, the layout we've all come to love and ... of course, the layout YOU have all come to hate

Two things to note is that :
  1. I did not expect a small label on the back of this keyboard, I'm starting to think the small labels are related to production size
  2. The cable is hilariously long, I think this is the feature that makes it a HCF, when it could be seen as a regular HAF

I'm still think it's typical for 1800 B date code

Cherry actually sold 1800s with a label that small? That's bizarre, that's the size of the stickers they put on keyboard assemblies. It's almost like they expected OEMs or companies to put their own sticker there.

The recess in the case matches the size of the bigger labels, so they will already have been in use.
The question remains, of course, why a smaller label was used instead.

Staged transition, perhaps? Easier to swap the labels first, in anticipation of the smaller recess to come. (Not that my implied Cherry knowledge should be trusted, I'm pure guessing here.)

Yeah, the smaller sticker might have been more economical for a low volume custom order. I guess it wouldn't be the first time Cherry tried to save money or reduce manufacturing cost in a strange way (I have boards with plates designed to mount stabs but used hat/stepped keys instead).
