I just emailed the seller to get this rolling, he might put it up @ regular ebay otherwise. Let's see what he replies, maybe it's gone already as these local ads have a long running time and sellers won't bother to delete them anyway.

As for double shipping, I guess it'll ship for 7€ within Germany. On top of that the international shipping, untracked shipping to Ireland should be 9€, if it fits the 2kg limit. Next up would be 17€ for a 5kg parcel, that would be trackable and with insurance too. Same prices for main UK btw.

I still don't understand the extreme desire for these SSK keyboards. They're just Model M keyboards without the numeric keypad. They're rarer than regular Model M keyboards, but they don't feel any better. (or do they?)

Then again, I don't understand the desire for Click Clacks or weirdly shaped (uncomfortable to press) keycaps either.

My SSK feels the same as my other Model Ms, and so a little worse and certainly different to my Model F XT. But I use it easily more than all the others combined. Tenkeyless is a fantastic layout. I much prefer it.

That TKL desire among enthusiasts, plus the double whammy of smaller original supply plus no Unicomp SSK, and you have the elevated price.

Space saving is a misleading name. I don't need the extra space my SSK gets me, I just want my mouse where the damn numpad is! If I could have the numpad on the left of a full size Model M, I wouldn't be nearly as irritated by it. (Besides when I'm lefty mousing of course!) Even the XT feels less dumb that way; as I have it mapped to arrows and navigation keys on the XT which lacks them otherwise.

60%s are a whole other story. There, it's about symmetry and beauty as much as getting the mouse even closer. I hardly use function keys so I'm glad to see them go. And, much I suspect to Emmer's dismay, I use an HHKB cursor diamond on my SSK as much as the arrow keys themselves. If only it had the pinkie Fn key, instead of having to get both hands involved via my remapped Caps Lock.

I see... but I still find that strange. What is the appeal of having the mouse that close to your keyboard? (Do you have stunted arms? Are you in fact... a midget?

That's the problem with using a mouse instead of a trackball - the need for reserving "rolling room". My current "standing desk" has a tiny amount of space and my keyboard is a huge monster, but I don't feel the need to get a smaller keyboard. I've got just enough room to rest my arms comfortably while using the trackball - and having it closer to the centre block of keys would be absolutely no benefit to me.

Obviously I understand the rarity/price thing, but besides that aspect, I just don't see the appeal.

I wouldn't dare tell people what to prefer. (I forever wind up in music fights, anyway…) But as for A500's question about why have the mouse closer: I like to be centrally aligned with my screen and keyboard. And when I say "like", I really mean forever unconsciously doing it whether I mean to or not. So a full size keyboard winds up shuffled over to the left with me, and I'll slap my mouse into the right end of the damn thing and even lose home row, all quite without thinking.

I'd blame it on Apple's symmetrical laptops, but I was doing this way back before I ever had one.

Exactly! What else were the first personal computers (Apple, Commodore, RadioShack, MITS, IMSAI…) when people bought them knowing there was no software? We experiment. It's what we are. And sometimes it pays off.

Who needs two keys? Just use gaps in the middle of hitting the one key to punctuate yourself.

Alps did make green tactile switches (PN SKCMAT, 0.686N, listed in their 1994 catalogue), which are extremely rare — I am not sure I've ever seen one. Those deeper green sliders are not a normal colour for Alps switches or clones, which suggests that they may be genuine — if they were frankenswitches, where did the sliders come from?
