Build log: Mechanical Dell Precision M4600

I love my Dell Precision M4600 and the great performance it offers (i7 2960XM 2.7/3.7GHz, 32 GB, 500GB EVO 850, 1TB HGST 7200 RPM -- about $975 with upgrades), but I decided I cannot stomach a domey-scissory keyboard any longer. I love my laptop, but really want to switch to a mechanical keyboard. I like the idea of the MSI GT80, but it's a little big and not very grown-up looking. The 15.6-17.1" form factor is my idea of the perfect computer, especially when paired with a boatload of RAM! This mod will be near identical for the Dell Precision 15.6" M4600/M4700/M4800 and the 17.1" M6500/M6600/M6700/M6800. I will try to produce CAD files for both the 15 and 17 inchers.
I really like the feel of MX Browns, so I will likely be using them. I might also make a version using Cherry ML, and possibly some RAFI switches (if I can get ahold of some).
I'm aware that I am going to have to make the laptop even fatter than it already is to accommodate the full travel switches. I will be taking measurements and fabricating an insert that goes in-between the palm rest and the bottom portion of the laptop. I will also have to fabricate inserts that raise the hinges and the latch mechanism to match.
Stay tuned for more updates!!
