Call to France! /dev/tty may be coming to you

Okay we are working on the second drop of /dev/tty keycaps. Hopefully this time there won't be hiccups, but you never know with Massdrop.

ANYWHO! I would like to finally add the French kit to the set but I'd need to know what would be the interest in such a thing. I believe we would need to sell at least 25-ish of them.

So, spread the word, contact your local communities and make some noise if you want to see this happening.

Thanks!

Are we talking /dev/tty round 2 or are we talking mt3 drop 2? Will Massdrop get there shit done this time? Just curious, sorry for OT...

technically it's /dev/tty1 (being 0-based it's the second drop). I don't know what MD will do, but if they don't keep me in the loop I don't think I will keep working with them.

+1 :D

I'm French but I only use ANSI-US layout :D .

For the second round you will add Cyrillic layout again?

Hello from HFR .o/

I'm sure there would be some interest from french keyboard enthusiasts ! AZERTY custom sets are extremely rare, that would be really nice to see more of them :D

Not sure...

They are not many French people with ISO-FR layout and mechanical keyboards enthusiasts...

And a big parts of this people says "what? 150€ for a set? You're crazy man!"

yes this is as good as it gets, people might complain because it's not Belgian but that's what most people use so use this one

Adding more kits to the Massdrop?
May I ask what the terms in the name imply? Dev/tty, MT3 while these keycaps are generally referred to as HiPros otherwise.

MT3 is the profile name, it just comes from my nickname. Hi-profile is a generic name for taller keycaps, but it doesn't identify them to any specific shape. Since we designed a completely new shape we gave it a new name.

/dev/tty is pronounced "device terminal", it's just because hi-pro keycaps come from old (terminal) keyboards

Thans, starting to make sense! :)
I searched through the wholoe Wiki yestrday night but couldn't really find it.
I ordered a few sets yesterday, they'll make for some nicely recapped keyboards!

Anything besides French layout? I'm only asking for beige Hyper/Meta/Symbol triplet for the mod row and symbolic replacements for Print Screen, Scroll Lock, Pause/Break - a camera, padlock, and coffee cup =)

Im with The here, got some compatibility problems. I expressed my concern for this on mass drop but I figured I would drop by this thread as well as it's a little less polluted. I'm requesting that a row 0 end key is added. I did not see it in any of the kits that currently exist.

It could be something that you're already aware of but I just wanted to be sure because I don't like having a random key different than the others. At the moment I'm just using the /dev/tty0 key as the placeholder. In my picture you'll also see I'm lacking 2.25u shift and 1.5u ctrl/alt, but I just missed that I needed the two other kits to fix that.

Thanks for bringing such a great profile to life.

@matt3o : hey, any news? ;)

Will it be possible to have a blank base set too? If no ISO FR or/and BE sets, will probably go for a blank set but have to buy 7xmini blank sets to fill a TKL layout :?

Cheers

Ah, that's not really surprising. Too bad.

I guess i should plunge deeper in the keyboard and switch to an ansi layout. Or rage quit out of frustration and go back to cheap dome keyboards altogether :)

Thanks for the effort @matteo

I have been refusing to use AZERTY for over 30 years now, I think that layout, certainly with the number only reachable with shift, is horrible.
Of course, if you’re French speaking it’s hard to do without since with that layout you can access the accented characters easily.
I am a Dutch speaking Belgian and here people use AZERTY which is no use at all for typing in Dutch, hence why I use QWERTY just like the Dutch do but I decided to go with the ANSI version rahter than the ISO version of QWERTY long ago just like I decided to use my OSes, devices and all software in English instead of Dutch.

I'm looking on the other kits stats, and some of them sells even less than the international one.

ISO kits suffers because there are no real interests in the community. There are no real interests in the community because there are basically little to no ISO kit avaiiable...

@matteo, is it possible to contact the manufacturer for custom order with this kit ?

:'(

What about a blank kit, and pre-printed sublimation sheets for intl layouts ? Is this feasible ?
We could try to "dye sublimate" it ourselves by hand... I've seen a GH topic about it. What keeps me back is the cost of sublimation printers.
