I would be in for one of the boards, preferrably the HyperMini Hack.

I also like the design of the HyperMini C400 or HyperMini 7bit. But they do look kinda crowded....

After looking each layout I think the coolest one is:



No stabilizers and no large modifiers.

By the way it would be nice to be able to mount those PCB on actual Poker cases. I laready have two of them and I need a keyboard for one

There exist already replacement shells for the Poker, so measures whill be to fit into these and the original Poker shell.

Take HHKB layout (with the second layer and extra Fun key to allow for touch typing of arrow keys). Add keys to empty space on bottom row. Don't fuck around with the spacing/size of the existing bottom row keys, they line up with touch typing fingers. Split the space bar in half, make Space/Back Space swappable (or both Space) like on an IBM Model M15. I like Space to the right. Give it colemak layout, use blank keys (the picture just shows labels for your exclusive convenience). This is just to scare the not-initiated. Well ok, you may use qwerty if you persist. Add "lowpoly" trackpoint, a scrollwheel and three mouse buttons. Add Duck key. Duck key + mouse buttons = volume control. Done.

I think I didn't use the efficient keywords in my google researches.

If there is more than only me interested by this stuff, it could be wise to make a groupbuy or maybe adding it in an actual.

I like webwits layout, but whats the point of 2 spacebars?
Id get it with normal spacebar and no tracking point and volume thing and buttons.

What you favor is a HHKB with extra keys to fill out the space on the bottom row. I like that as well (HHKB3?).

The point of two space bars is to make one of them backspace and reduce travel to backspace. You can have a thumb resting on it. Many people use only one thumb for Space. It's a shame to waste half the space bar and one thumb.

Same main reason with the tracking point and mouse buttons: reduce hand travel, in this case to the pointing device.

This is an ergonomic mini keyboard layout, where everything can be controlled with little hand movement.

If you don't like volume control, you may also program the Duck key so your browser goes directly to deskthority.

I just tried to press spacebar with my right thumb, feels weird but doable and indeed might be a pretty good idea.
You're layout looks amazing and is pretty well thought (I will now dream of a HHKB3 ).

The built in mice thing is probably fast and good for RSI but for those who dont use it (I don't) its a huge turn-off.
Duck key would be nice for extra macro's

After looking through the thread quickly I just want to add that I think that a 0.5X shift between rows is too much for a symmetric stagger, 0.25 feels just right. And if I had the (extra) money when I ordered keycaps for mine, I would have gotten the stepped 1.25X wide keys with offset stem. That would have looked sweet =)

I should also add that the extremely small layout ideas presented here would probably not be much fun to use for several non-English writers, since there are some extra characters that need somewhere to go...

When I was typing an essay in French on my HHKB I just typed it without accents and let spellcheck/grammercheck do the rest

But if ur writing full-time in that language it would be a pain.
However all you need to do is some changes in the driver I guess.

qHACK layout discriminates any language which needs three different aåä! Wåt the fök! I dare not think what extra âãá there are behind Alt Gr. However, once I made my first million licensing the design to the non-tripple-a part of the world, I'll contemplate a north European qHÄCK variant.

And you had to check yourself if the automatic tools didn't make a lot of mistakes and nonsenses that gives you more work

You don't have to change "drivers" but layouts : you don't need to have a full KB, you just need to add layers.

And I think you could write french with a qwerty International, french canadians use qwerty instead of azerty.

I think there was an Alps PCB for the OTD 356 mini group buy at least once. You just need enough fellow Alps lovers. Good luck.

I don't think I tried Brown Alps, but as a Topre replacement complicated Green Alps would be my choice.

Ha =) No we are quite satisfied with the åäö we've got. We are also very sparse on any other diacritics in Swedish. But åäö are frequent enough and considered individual letters. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letter_frequency

Very nice staggered keyboards. I used 0.25x stagger like you suggest in the ones I proposed for the HyperMicro size. I'd be pretty happy with a TKL or 60% using the layout you have, with maybe just a split spacebar added. Oh, and ANSI of course.

Anyway, I was planning on sneaking the possibility to use symmetric stagger onto the "phantom" round 2 PCB. That one won't be 60% though, tenkeyless will work.
