I have been corresponding with a fellow about some old Sun keyboards.
Turns out he works for MS, uses an iPad, and collects old Sun and HP gear that ran some flavor of Unix

I guess it is the only way he can survive!

They're all cross-platform these days, under the new bald guy. But I suspect your contact was just as wild even back when Windows was meant to be Everywhere!

microsoft had a unix OS at some point

For a while Steve Ballmer banned his kids from using any Google products. I wonder if that is still the case.
