I'm building a new PC for my 30th which I'm using as an excuse to buy a new keyboard. As an Emacs user, I want to control where the control, and preferably also the alt and caps lock keys, sit on the keyboard.

I have an Omnikey that I use, but I want something modern as a change of pace / something with a lighter action.

My only requirements are:
- modern
- bigger than 60%
- not Topre (I already have one)

I'm looking at the Leopold FC980m, but they're pretty difficult to source for us Brits.

Lose the dip switches! Use a Soarer's or Hasu's TMK converter and you can map any key to anything and have different layers to control which layout you are in with key combinations rather than fussing with dip switches. If you want de upper modern that only supports USB without ps/2 backwards compatibility, Hasu's USB to USB converter would probably be best. Soarer's would need a ps/2 compatible support as it cannot convert USB to USB.

Interesting. So if the motherboard doesn't understand ps/2, then the Soarer's converter would need passing through an active converter?

Interesting idea of layers, this means that Excel users (for example) wouldn't lose the muscle memory of key combinations involving ctrl.
