I've been doing some desoldering on my ducky 1087XM board and replaced the green alps on it with cream alps from an AEK II. And to be honest I hate the AEK II switches, they are heavy as hell to activate.

When I did the desoldering I realized how easy it was, so I'm thinking about replacing the AEK II ALP switches with cherry switches. Will they fit? Will they work if they fit?

Hehe, OK. So if I make them fit I can switch to cherrys and the onboard chip will work with them ?

The switches have different pins and different width/height in the mounting plate. A Cherry MX switch needs a square mounting hole, but an Alps switch needs a rectangular mounting hole that is smaller in one direction and larger in the other. This means that a Cherry MX switch will not fit into an Alps mounting plate and vice versa.
Trying to make one switch fit might be worth it for a switch-try-board, but making all is too much work.
