i used to be way into shmups and bullet hells but it's been a while. i found out that a bunch of cave games were ported to android and iOS so as soon as I get paid i'll be getting one of the espgaluda games and at least one of the dodonpatchi games (i think revival is the good one according to reviews).
i was also just introduced to Beat Hazard which is not a traditional shmup (more like asteroids on a scrolling field) but it's one of the best games i've played in quite a while.

jamestown runs on linux so i got that as part of one of the humble bundles and i am really impressed with the quality of it. it's awesome playing a 16bit-esque game with proper scaling on a 1920x1200 monitor... hmm maybe i should try some of these games in portrait mode

anyone else into shmups? post your favorites here! i just got all the touhou games so i might start with those if i ever get a windows VM running.

Jamestown is pretty much the only one I've played, it's a great game even if it's not my kind of genre, though I can definitely see the appeal of shmups.

Tyrian 2000.

i LOVED tyrian 2000. i remember hearing it was ported to iOS; i might check that out. opentyrian was running pretty well last time i tried it but i have no idea how the project is doing these days; can't imagine they had much work left to do if it was stable.

There's this Samurai one on Mame, where you can Charge up and "slash" the bullets... I can't remember what it's called, but it's awesome
