From #geekhack on IRC:

Code: Select all

[14:53] <dorkvader> DT should fire up the GH refugee camp again
[14:53] <AKIMbO> DT's new phrase "Give me your poor, your weak, your geekhackers"

I was totally there for that! I get that reference!

All I need from GH is the GH60 thread. Maybe we can move it over to DT and then forget about GH?
:o

Someday, they're just going to have to come to terms with the fact that they need more than an Atari ST for a server. Retro hosting is cool and all, but PowerPC is calling…

Trying to sell your old iMac, right?

Posted: 05 Aug 2014, 15:26

Nah, still using it most days (including this post), and I got it a few years ago for $0.00 so selling wouldn't exactly be fair.

Was thinking more like this:

I've heard of SE/30s used as web servers, but that's about as low end as it gets.

Uuh ... taht looks dangerous ... having a room like that would shorten my life by decades.

And extend your mortgage. Those systems are all harder to come by in Europe, as are spare rooms to dedicate entirely.

It's back online.

[EDIT] I have this SGI O2 here, maybe this one can be used for a webserver?

Naturally! As can the G4s in the background. Although I doubt GH's problem is server hardware, so much as insecure software in the stack. They seem to draw the other kind of hackers like anything edible in Scotland in August attracts a swarm of wasps!

mkawa announced on Youtube:

Probably a hardware failure. They just woke up over on the US west coast to start working on it.

Hmm.. GH was up again already when the video was posted.. huh?

Free and automatic. People with much bigger sites than mine swear by it.

The name “Geekhack” is regularly misunderstood by hacker kiddies and they feel provocated to test their skills. Natural.

Pity they seem to be so effective.

I can vouch the guy is quite the geek polymath. He rewrites Firefox to make it build and run on PowerPC, for a hobby. Not the smallest of tasks these days!

All of them.
If they are interested in hacking, they joined the wrong forum.
And if they are interested in keyboards, just the same. :evilgeek:

So much hate from DT... We GeekHackers have nothing but respect for you guys, even despite your strange addiction to ISO formats. :?

Aaah! I've got one of these too. They're amazing. :D

We used to work on these O2s! If I remember what I had to do back then, I really hate it and love the tools I have today.
