Re: Cleaning/Restoring Vintage MX Blues?
You're looking for something really low viscosity. GPL 103 is an oil (!)
Nyogel 767A is at the opposite end of the spectrum, essentially.
Yup. You don't want to slow down the mechanism, or you'll end up with MX Whites instead of blues. Not to mention Cherries are a pain in the arrrs to fix ...

The board looks awesome.
The caps are kick ass.
The switches suck ass.
Welcome to the hobby otherwise.
Next, get an M0116/118, or a Model M for dirt cheap, and convert it to USB.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Just bc it is not close to the OG lube, don't rule it out just yet. 30+ years has passed with intensive research at lube companies, so I miagine we might find something even better than the og lube, if we look well enough at it. We should ask for specific properties, like stick-slip reduction, and ...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
The flash point of TB2518P being so low is pretty interesting. I'd imagine that's because the spec provided is for a pre-mixed solvent blend especially since it's name says specifically "[...] petroleum solvents". I'd be more interested in the properties after it has been applied and allowed to ...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I had an order for a sample kit of 17 different special lubes and they are finally here.
I selected them based on the OG ingredients and specs. Now, I will test each one of them against the OG lube, to find a worthy replacement.

Indeed. Along with not disregarding the other possibilites that has to be tested.hellothere wrote: 09 Jan 2022, 23:43 Again, as far as Alps' original lube, that's been found. At this point, it's much more along the lines of which lube works better for used switches. I think. Maybe.

It was only when I tried one last candle, the one candle I had tried the first time months ago, that it actually did work ! And guess what: it didn't matter how I apply that particular candle wax, it just worked either way. Either just rubbing the stem on it in the most crude way, or ...

Hmm, that could be a part of their charm. Still, they are very smooth and somehow feel even more "linear" than the MX Black.
Indeed, it is definietly for me. Nothing compares to them when it comes to stability. They feel tight and nice, and not at all clunky. Not to mention that deep thocc ...

Some of the theories here remind me of the one where the guy claimed that if you jumped out of an airplane from higher and higher, with a smaller and smaller parachute, you'd eventually not need one at all. It actually turned out to be true, but not for the reason he thought.

All you wax modders keep us appraised on how well it stands up to use and time. Its simplicity and effectiveness is very appealing. But so was Retrobright… (Let’s not get started on boomeranging yellowing, just for the sake of an analogy. But I for one will never do it only ...

I get a comparable but different trance-state of flow from Topre, and they're so much more consistent. But Alps has definitely got the "it" factor. (When it's in the mood.)

Two things that are worse than nails on a chalkboard to me:
1) Trying to rip off a piece of scotch tape and it instead scraping against the little plastic teeth
2) Sticky alps
Well said.

Since I have a few pieces of latex clothes that I chlorinated, the texture and color matched it. I think it's safe to say it's chlorinated latex.

The original lube was supposedly paraffin based, so it is somewhat similar.
Chemically, they are different. Paraffin-based does not mean that it's paraffin wax. Chyros has explained it very well, even tho his attempt at waxing was admitedly half-assed at best, his chemical explaination was good ...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I understand your standpoint. But keep this in mind, my goal was to restore this white board I had given up on. It has upstroke clicks, etc. It just needed some love, and finally there was a mod that was cheap, and easy to do, that actually worked. We'll see how long it holds up, but for now, it ...
