I have a new Model F which is demonstrating an intermittent fault in which a whole bunch of keys stop working. Here is the output of the VIal Key Matrix Test:

This first happened a few days ago. At the time I didn't have time to do anything about it, so I unplugged

New post [Keyboards] Unicomp 122 Adventure:
Thanks, I got some items in my ebay cart now. Some of those will make it much easier, for sure. Definitely going screw mod next time. T6s in my McMaster cart for the next time I place an order with them, too.

New post [Workshop] Modeling an F key mechanism
Yes, heavier flippers will have higher momentum (even in friction less environment).
This higher momentum should displace PCB more (higher amplitude) but more slowly (lower frequency). That would be true if the flipper speed at the PCB impact corresponds to the resonant frequency of the PCB. Which is

New post [Keyboards] Alps Appreciation
In the off-chance that anyone sees this... I'm doing some research on the FK-555 -> Omnikey -> Avant lineage and the many posts about them here has been invaluable so far. Polecat, would you consider sharing your database of documented units? I can also add in the details from my 4 Omnikeys and

New post [Keyboards] Where to find vintage boards?
Other than a handful of 1970s-'80s IBM typewriters, I've NEVER found a good vintage keyboard at a thrift store (I live in one of the biggest metro areas in the US). So, the vintage keyboards (Model Fs, a 1985 Model M, other Model Ms, Cherry stuff) in my collection I've sourced either on eBay or through

New post [Keyboards] Best vintage keyboard without spending life's savings?
The big problem, really, is that you'll realise 104 keys is good, but 122 keys are better!

New post [Keyboards] Later Generation Alps Feel Worse Due To An Actuator Leaf Change.
Hypothesis
I don't see it documented anywhere, but the shape of the actuator leaf is different in newer Alps. This is what is causing newer generations of alps switches to feel less refined. Before I go into more detail here, first some background:

There are numerous well documented changes

New post [Keyboards] 1985 F122 or M122?
Update: the M122 arrived today.
(Super big versions of the above photos: internals ; label .)
Looks like the date of manufacture was around September 25, 1985. Board needs a good cleaning and a screw/bolt mod, but overall it's a lot cleaner than I expected.
I don't have a converter, but I'll

New post [Workshop] Cracked Barrel Plate.
Attempted a repair on a cracked barrel plate with ABS glue and it worked out better than I thought it would.
Put it on heavy with a Q-tip and let it cure for a week before I did a screw mod. I had a major break in the center
and hair line cracks running down each channel. This barrel plate is rare because
