Re: Omron75, the year of B3G-S omrons

This is fantastic! I absolutely love the way Amber B3G-S feel, but I've never been able to get a working keyboard with them. I still have a dead Wang 725 full of Ambers and a bunch of loose Whites and Ambers that I'd love to finally use.

Re: Re:

Took a gamble on a Monterey K103 last week and it just arrived today. Was expecting white Alps but hoping for Omron Alps-styles, ended up with blue Alps. Never expected to get blues for less than $200, especially not in such a nice board. Good build quality, doubleshot keycaps, 2u backspace, delici...

Re: KME board with KPT blues

Those look like the KPT clones I found last year, except mine were linear. They have the same lettering and general shape. Here's the post detailing the differences between the ones I found and regular KPT switches.

Re: Most and least reliable keyboard switch?

Omron B3G-S are notoriously unreliable. Seems like a quarter of the Cyans in my FK-555 have chattering issues, and the Amber variant has been known to die randomly as well. It's such a shame because they feel absolutely fantastic.

Re: Data General 6246 Keyboard Conversion

Hey, that's my keyboard! Cool to see it getting some love on here. Super excited to get it back under my fingers because those are some absolute A+ Tier switches, to say nothing of the rest of the board.

Sadly that amber listing only appears to have two switches available (unless it's mistranslated and I'm missing something) If you run the page through Chrome's auto-translate, it says there are 994,752 in stock. The '2' you're looking at is 'cumulative comments' aka transaction reviews, one of whic...

Very interesting development! Had to borrow someone else's phone to take these pics. Please excuse the nastiness, I just finished taking the keycaps off and haven't cleaned anything yet. https://i.imgur.com/wvE91tZ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0AdbfHp.jpg A single Omron Alps-style switch on the 'I' key! ...

New alps.tw Type OD1 variant

The keyboard in question: https://i.imgur.com/gp6GEpi.jpg https://i.imgur.com/0bBV64O.jpg?1 I bought this keyboard a long time ago, but never bothered investigating it because I assumed it just had some generic KPT clones. I had originally planned to restore and document it once I bought a proper de...

Canon S-15 with Alps Integrated Domes and an SKCL Green for the lock switch.

They're not the worst switches I've ever used... but they're pretty awful. I'm very happy with the keycaps though!

Just got this in the mail. https://i.imgur.com/mGmXI84.jpg NIB Tai-Hao TH-5539-8 , rebranded as F-21YQ. It has unbranded Tai-Hao APC switches - white slider, older & larger rear contact plate, wide click leaf. They feel fairly similar to the Pine White Alps in my NOS FK-2001, but more tactile and le...

We actually had another topic on these a couple weeks ago. https://deskthority.net/keyboards-f2/what-is-this-keyboard-white-kpt-clones-macintosh-plus-style-layout-t19521.html To sum it up, they're a fairly mediocre KPT clone. They're interesting because they're nearly identical to KPT switches inter...

They're pretty bad, in my opinion. Smoothness is very inconsistent but overall fairly rough. The worst part though is that you can actually hear the contacts on some of the switches. I might record a quick audio sample with my cheap desktop mic, just to give you an idea of what they sound like.

Got some pictures but they're not great. https://i.imgur.com/PviUmyw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/NpWfV3U.jpg Contacts appear identical, though I did kind of mangle the AC3 contacts trying to get them out. Really didn't help that every single pin was flattened against the PCB. https://i.imgur.com/8vkhp4r...

Why didn't you try 55 or 65g springs instead?
I did originally. I just swapped the 30g springs into the home row for a few minutes to see how they felt. I swapped them back to the 65g springs immediately after.

I found these, someone on Reddit said they were very tactile, but I'm not sure. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100PCS-Keyboard-switch-reset-button-switch-2Pin-DIP-100-mechanical-keyboard-special-MX-axis-button-switch/32827442800.html They're not lying; they're definitely very tactile. I bought one of these from eBay recently too. I was planning to get some pictures up today but I didn't have time. As far as I know, the switches haven't been documented yet. What's odd is that they do seem to be KPT clones, but they're completely plate-incompatible with KPT switches. The KPT switch...

Should there be an AT/XT switch here?

I have a question about my Wang. I just got my converter from Hasu and was looking forward to trying out my Wang 725-7943-US, but when I plug it in the lock lights flash for half a second and the board doesn't work. I checked the back and noticed there was no AT/XT switch sticking out of the hole. h...

I tried soaking mine in isopropyl a while ago, but it didn't help much. I might have either soaked them too long or not long enough, though. Might give it another go today.
