Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
I looked at the existing Model F configurator site and it's implemented in a much better/maintainable way than how I approached things. I mostly left the web stack project code untouched, except changing the API URL to one where I was returning my mocked data. The only reason I did this was because ...

Re: Unicomp's new RP2040/Pico controller purchasing & flashing Vial-QMK guide
Chef’s kiss on the guide. Very clear writing and all the pictures make the instructions super clear. I’ve gotta take a page from your book next time I do a writeup like this. Big thank you to pandrew as well for making this possible. Liberate the SSK! A chicken for every pot and a Mini M for every d...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
Questions for Pandrew if he is reading along: #1 -- Any idea why might the service light on mine always be showing yellow (i.e. degraded)? Everything seems to work fine and I don't see anything alarming in the terminal. Just has me curious. brave_hFt9lurHO5.png #2 -- Do you know if it's possible to ...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
Just curious: I assume these are not included in the official QMK repo for a reason. Why might that be if they have such broad usage? Sorry if that’s another stupid question.

Nice, I didn’t know pandrew had a server. I used his docker compose file to help when I was stumbling through the setup but even that I’m not sure where it came from. What is the address? Or is it super secret “if you know you know”?

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
I was revisiting the setup steps for creating your own QMK Configurator instance with custom/unofficial keyboard support in order to update the guide I wrote a few months back. The process is basically the same but with a few tweaks around some of the changes to the QMK repositories that have been i...

Stocks would have been the way to go for sure. You simply can’t trust anyone who’s gotten rich off keyboards.

That's a sweet picture! Maybe she was the one selling them for "$29.75 ea." Here's the typing video I promised. I tried to capture a few variations to give a good idea of what it sounds like in person. I kind of suck at making these but I think the sound came through good enough. 0jWzFw5ePZM

Re: Micro Switch SW Keyboard Module
Yay, the spacebar is fixed! The "grime" on the switch slider was a misdirect. I think those are just friction marks with a small amount of dirt. Trying to clean the slider off did not do the trick. I worked up the nerve to remove the stabilizer wire and it was actually quite painless. Looking at the...

Re: Micro Switch SW Keyboard Module
Wow, that old ay?!? Feels pretty good all things considered. I want to make a typing video and capture the sound real well but unfortunately the spacebar doesn’t return when pressed. It gets barely stuck enough that a small tap releases it but it won’t pop back on its own. Upon closer inspection I s...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Thanks for the advice, guys. Like I mentioned before, I usually go full bore with things right off the bat and it has not worked out well for me in the past. Definitely going to take a more metered approach this time and start with some soft cleaning of a few switches and judge how well it's working...

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
I bought a Datacomp DFK777 on ebay and am waiting to get it in the mail. It looked fine from the photos but the listing says it "needs cleaned" so I'm expecting it to be at least less than pristine. Old me would assume that deep cleaning all of the switches and wax mod lubing them would get the best...

The dos and don’ts of making good typing videos
What do you like and dislike about typing videos (if you even like them at all)? For me, the mic should not be too close to the action, otherwise the sound overwhelms everything. It’s like trying to take in a painting from an inch away. There’s zero enjoyment to the viewer/listener. It also rarely r...

That's awesome, nice work, pandrew. You never cease to amaze me with your know-how. 5. Define a Default Layout If you were to spin up the configurator at this point, it should load, but with a totally blank layout. 4. Add a Custom Keyboard If you’re setting up your own Configurator, it’s likely that the reason for this is to test out your own keyboard firmware. I did a full write up on my site about how to do this but wanted to post this as well on the forums to spread the info a bit more since my blog is tucked away. Here's a link to the instru...

Re: Lenovo: we need to talk about the Evil Layoutery you're applying in your laptop keyboards.
These bizarre laptop keyboard layouts have to be the result of focus groups or something. My philosophy is that singular visions almost always result in better design. Design by committee always ends up being chaotic.
