Re: XT to 5251 Converter
this protocol is relatively simple and fairly well documented, no snipping from me though, too many pages from http://bitsavers.org/pdf/ibm/5250_5251/SY31-0461-3_5251_Display_Station_Models_1_and_11_MIM_Jul79.pdf you should look at pages 65-92 (pdf pages not page numbers) the basic process seems to ...

Phpbb doesn't do personal data or tracking except your email address and anything you posted or pm-ed, i.e. your own content. You can review your email and download your pm's. You can also delete stuff or ask for account deletion. Since you have 29 posts/pm's total, this should be trivial. All the ...

thats cool, ive found some; let me know if these work, im planning on spinning up my own to do some data-sniffing around a system 32/34/36/38 i have occasional access to. here are my notes for the 5250 anyway: connector for panel mount connector Amphenol 082-5590-RFX cable ends use Amphenol 082-5589...

likely some more interesting information about the 5250 terminals will be found here http://bitsavers.org/pdf/ibm/system34/fe/SY-31-0458-6_IBM_System_34_Theory_Diagrams_Manual_Volume_2_198201/11_Work_Station_Attachment.pdf http://bitsavers.org/pdf/ibm/system34/fe/5340_Volume_D_ALD_sn0029238_Feb80.pdf

Re: READY - $10 - DIY Through Hole Universal Model F and Beamspring Controller
BTW, I would recommend a DAC with some faster bus. If you can reprogram it between scans, you can have per-column thresholds - which is not as good as per-cell, but close enough for practical purposes. yeah i wanted one originally but that would have driven the price up a bit, im still on the looko...

updates pushed, sans resistor and trace changes (would have pushed last week, but a lot of weird stuff has been happening) I need to resize for better and larger resistors, or baring that; switch to large smd resistors, not sure which would be more amenable to use. Ive also included the pull request...

Re: Coming Soon - Through Hole Universal Model F and Beamspring Controller
on the note of atmega being single sourced: duh, but my point was that its possible to swap out the microcontroller for another, only making some modifications to the firmware. Oh, _that_. No difference there either. All the FPGA stuff can be pulled out and implemented using discrete logic and driv...

Re: Coming Soon - Through Hole Universal Model F and Beamspring Controller
Id like to make the argument that the CommonSense controller does not use an "off the shelf" part. its a specific part that isnt made to by any other manufacturer, where as with the XWhatsIt design you can swap most of the parts around for other components, no particular reliance on a specific manu...

Ooh, this does look promising! Though admittedly CommonSense still has the advantage of off the shelf parts, even if it is a bit of a pain to configure. Re: NCR K430 magnetic valve - Fixed! - second row from bottom was dead
May I ask a question about the PCB layout? What might be the purpose of the extra columns without holes in the loops, in between the columns which have holes in the loops where the ferrite beads attached to the keys pass through? Do these serve as reference loops against which the sensor loops are ...

just make sure to be very careful in sanding that connector, you're only trying to break any oxide or light corrosion, if you see copper STOP!

no its almost certainly the edge connector. ive restored a handful of 5251's its usually the only place they can stop working, even with corroded looking pcbs. get some 1k grit or higher sandpaper, and use some isopropanol to gently sand the connector. since you've got it apart already clean the pcb...

Apparently, American beer is far worse than Canadian beer (at least that's what every Canadian says). Thankfully, I've never tried American beer. I hate all big budget movies nowadays. Always the same shit story in different clothes, dumbed down for a global market. The last big budget movie master piece was probably Starship Troopers, and that was only possible because it was such a nasty hidden troll in a sci-fi flick. ... master piece? St...

Re: Modern Beamspring? - The Silo Beam Switch
you'd need a custom PCB made for any existing boards, due to the hall effect sensor. i guess they could have gone with a 2-wire hall effect sensor and integrated it into the switch, but that means reliance on one sensor, and engineering a custom frame to hold the sensor; engineering an assembly proc...
