Am I the only one that finds GON's stuff excessively expensive? I mean, $300 ish for a 40% kit is kind of crazy, especially when the case isn't even made of metal. There's only so many components in such a small keyboard!

Great work! This looks great. The main failing for me of the JD40 (and almost all 40s) is the inability to use Colemak. I'm hoping I can scrounge up the cash in time. If I wanted it assembled, but not with those switches, can I send you some switches to use instead?

Unfortunately, I am unable to sell kit components, such as the case, plate, or PCB, separately. These are packaged as keyboards and kits by the manufacturer, and I will be shipping them all personally from my home, without ...

The plate does care, however. MX and Alps switches need different cutouts. I'd suggest making the Alps plate a hybrid, simply because of the Mission Impossible nature of sourcing all those specific mods!

Alps support: what about hybrid layouts with Alps alphas and MX mods? Alps caps are hard to source. Alphas are doable though.

Also, if you want the switches and stabilizers to clip onto the plate, you'll want to use 1.5mm thickness material.

And no, it shouldn't flex if made out of stainless, at least.

Proof of concept:

Be aware that with universal layout plates like that, you have to use a PCB with support for PCB-mount stabilizers. Because there is no place on the plate for a plate mounted (Cherry or Costar) stabilizer to mount to. It's just a large hole, which allows the PCB-mount stabilizer to pass through.

Actually, there is the tiniest bit of lubricant applied at the factory to the plastic "ramp" area that contacts the metal. You can safely add a very tiny amount of Krytox there without affecting the click or feel of blue/green/white switches.

QUICK UPDATE:

Teensys arrived Monday, as scheduled. All European orders going via proxy (Muirium) have been shipped as of today. Will work on getting the rest packed and labeled this weekend, to go out in Monday's mail.
