Hi Joe, please can you specify the difference between the "F122" and "New F122" foam?

Yeah. I would have used something thicker if I had it on hand. Do you have a Huntsman you plan on modding?

I know it's sold already, but I'm curious. When you say modded, what exactly do you mean? What's been done to it?
Hiya, this is what I put in the Ebay description:

Re: Restoration blunders
It is very hard, if not impossible to restore the position of the tabs to default.
Once everything is dependably in place, a good whack or 2 with a hammer will finish the job.
Oh of course, but I was referring to tabs that are bent. The backplate won't mate with the barrel frame as well ...

Re: Restoration blunders
Honestly, all of my old Model F restorations. But I guess you only learn from failure.
I used to use pliers to bend the latching tabs to remove the backplate, rather than sliding it out of the locking tabs. If I didn't do this, I would twist all of them inwards in the hopes of making the assembly ...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
I am now nearly out of the f77 regular foam so all future foam is going to be the authentic IBM style, much lighter XT style foam (the non-crumbly variety).
Hi Joe,
Since I recently placed my F77 order, can I opt for the lighter, original-style foam in mine? Would this incur any additional ...

It's worth noting that it's not the end of the world if flippers are trapped when everything is back together. You can use tweezers on the paddle to nudge it so it isn't trapped under the barrel.

Re: Strange, oily smell from rubber (?) sheet inside a Model M
Thank you for your replies!
I'll take pics later today (after our Christmas breakfast :-) ). I don't think there's a lot to see, though. There's nothing odd to the rubber sheet beyond it smelling bad.
A few years ago, I bought another Model M with the intention of bolt modding it. That one ...

Re: Strange, oily smell from rubber (?) sheet inside a Model M
I'm no Model M expert, but I think I know what smell you are talking about. It seems all old Models M and F smell strong. The Models F I've opened, especially the F122s, smell like aircraft hangars. Just all musty and oily. I haven't heard anything about any of the materials used being particularly ...

Re: Model F122 Column Issue
I carry out bolt-mods on my F122s and isolate them from the backplate using electrical tape. I didn't know this in the past, so I'd end up with chattering or keys next to the bolts just not working.

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
New batches of repro barrels are very good. They are smooth and hold the keycaps very tightly, far more so than any OG barrels I have experienced. I asked Ellipse about this and this wasn't intentional. I, however, noticed it immediately when I got my F62. They're so good that I bought a full set ...

Re: Does this dampen my keyboard?
You can get Gateron Optical Silent switches, but I don't really like them. Like the Optical Reds and Blacks I've tried, they have that same gross bottom-out feeling that I cannot describe. It's not hollowness or anything, it's like the slider catches on something if you press it off-center and ...

I use 2mm plastazoate polyethylene foam in some of my keyboards, which tightens up the sound without making it quiet.

Not going to lie, I was shitting myself thinking this thread was about the RT Model M and the janky converter I made for it. I sold it to a very friendly UK buyer (like yourself), but thankfully I'm not responsible for this!

Please note, this keyboard will need a foam replacement. All UK-made ones have shitty foam that always disintegrates. I say "need", that's if you want the keys to feel their best.

Re: Alps Lubricant FOUND!
Just tried to wax mod a model m key stem cause why not and it works really well, it removes all the binding from off-centre key presses and increases the smoothness a bit. I didn't try to boil to clean the stem first which would probably help the smoothness but I'll try that now.
No way? :o I ...

Oh damn, Interesting.
I just tried some F caps on my M, but it was only marginally smoother. That being said, I do hear people confirming, in general, that one-piece caps feel much smoother.
I also might've felt a less cushioned bottom-out, but that easily could've been placebo. Can someone ...
