Re: How do you store your keyboards?
I have about 200 boards now, and if I tried to do the glass display case thing the cost and space requirements would just be prohibitive. I mostly do the postal box thing, stacked vertically along a wall in the spare bedroom.

Which are the best alps clicky switches? And which keyboard have it?
For me nothing beats blue alps in good condition in terms of alps switches. I'm typing this on a blue alps board branded 'computerland' ( I have a history with them :-) )
Funny you should ask this. I've accumulated a ...

Mr. Harris,
Many have expressed far better than I the gratitude we have for both the wonderful keyboards themselves and that you are taking time to answer all these questions.
Therefore I will just say thank you, and God bless.

Re: Historical question - when did rubber domes eat the world?
Mmmmm Doom. When I came to my present job back in the early 1990s I and a much more senior faculty member got into Doom. Good times.
Recently I got one of the free Doom variants and it's still great fun. I've been playing it using an Acer kb101A

Re: Could anyone tell me a bit more about these two numpads?
They aren't. The weighting sucks ass and they aren't as exceptionally smooth as Chyros (and subsequently the entire vint keeb community) jerks them off to be.
It's almost as if keyfeel is subjective and dependant on condition or something.
Dude, I think you may be on to something!
But ...

Re: Fragile space invaders keyboards?
I may have answered my own question. Today I decided that I would look at one of the space invaders boards that is nonfunctional. Picking up the box it was in, I found the bottom of the box wasn't secure and the board slid diagonally to the floor along the long axis. On picking it up I found several ...

Fragile space invaders keyboards?
Recently I've had some odd experiences with clicky space invaders keyboards. One arrived with a great number of key caps off, some switchs non functional, two switchs were actually broken, and two of the key caps had bits broken off and the bits were to be found attached to the switch housing.

How is the condition of the switchs in the Chicony KB-5181 - Monterey Blue - $40

Re: A case for a Tandy 3000
Can you please mention how the case broke so others can be more careful when handling it?
Sure. Now this case was extremely yellow, almost orange, so it must have been exposed to the sun or in some other bad environment for a long time.
My plan was to take it apart and then either retrobrite ...

A case for a Tandy 3000
So I had this Tandy 3000, switchs in great condition but case very yellow and dodgy looking. Recently I got another in much better shape case wise, so decided to try to do a little work on the first one. As you might guess the case disintegrated in my hands and so I'm looking for a replacement case.

Opening and cleaning SMK blue clicky switchs
Hey all,
I recently got a keyboard with clicky blue SMK switches but there's a lot of binding and the switches are not close to as pleasant as those in my Siig minitouch.

Currently at my office I'm using an Apple Extended Keyboard (orange alps, yum). The homing bumps on d and k were bugging me so I swapped the key caps on f and d also with j and k.
