Re: Keyboardio Models 01 and 100
...those keys aligned to vertical columns (e.g. Q A Z) instead of normal angle would give me a tough time. Why...?
Look at your hands :) The middle finger projects further than the two either side and the little finger is shorter still. The columns are staggered to reflect this. I find ...

Nope, that’s news to me. Wish somebody would fix Wiki tho: if I owned the place I’d get somebody to do it right away.

Keyboardio Models 01 and 100
The 01 and 100 are subsequent revisions of that firm's flagship split keyboard. The Model 01 was the first design and used Alps pattern switches, the 100 is the current version and replaced those with hot-swap MX style. Both have wooden enclosures, solid feet mounting system to allow for tenting ...

Keyboardio Preonic
The Keyboardio Preonic is a small format grid keyboard that is available for pre-order on the obigatory crowdfunding page (the crowd fund has run its course). The Preonic was originally an OLKB design and is available here with bluetooth, scroll wheel, hot swap switches and four indicator lights in ...

Re: F104+SSK+122+62+77+50+Ergo orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
I read that both split keyboards actually have a keyboard controller in each part, ie. you plug two independent keybards.
This probably means that pressing Fn on one half will not trigger the Fn layer on the other half.
Maybe it also means that pressing Shift on one will not trigger Shift on the ...

I'm fascinated by the appearance of an Ergodox, but to me its too much keyboard. If there is a demand for further staggered column formats perhaps the Atreus may be considered?

Re: A Modern Contactless MX-style mount switch?
There is the Varmilo EC family, literally an MX clone whose contacts are engineered so they don't. It still requires a different circuit to detect the capacitance. I can't provide a product link, but this switch is available in some of their off-the-peg completes.

Re: Maltron single-handed keyboard review (Cherry MX Black)
I found myself disappointed by the review for reasons iterated by many others here. Whilst there is room for constructive criticism of Maltron's - shall we say - lack of premium feel, it seems churlish to criticise them of all companies for using an unorthodox letter layout.

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?
Probably not, everything defaults to qwerty and I doubt that even when working from home folks won't feel inclined to change.
The priority thus far it seems has been to get everyone set up for remote working - grab a laptop and work on the kitchen table. Maybe in future as people approach the ...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?
Simplified Keyboard users were overrepresented among top-ranking participants in typing competitions (while Dvorak supposedly paid for their travel from his own income and savings); the layout was actually taught to thousands of students (still a very small number compared to QWERTY) and shown to ...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?
After 9 years of exclusively typing Dvorak (and typing a lot), I got a job where it was hugely inconvenient to not be able to type QWERTY (ie. had to type on keyboards where I could not switch the layout), so I decided it would be a career enhancing move to quit Dvorak and go back to QWERTY.
The ...

Your use selective quoting to make it seem that the RSTHD layout is arbitrarily designed. The author goes on to explain he then went on to design an application to sort through the different configurations and, assuming that he based his scoring on correct assumptions , the winning layout would ...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?
I don't understand why the poll has some seemingly unrelated layouts (e.g. Norman and Workman) grouped together as though they were the same thing. Norman and Workman are very different. It would make more sense to either separate them, or just list the 3 or 4 more likely options and then have ...

Re: Your typing skills are totally erased: what would you learn?
If you were learning typing on an ortholinear board, maybe you would benefit from a Malt style layout? Those which put the 'E' on the thumb such as RSTHD are consistently scored more highly by analyser programmes than the best of the layouts that fit on legacy staggered row hardware.

Thanks for all the votes cast so far!
QWERTY. That way I can use the most keyboards. Also I doubt another layout would give me any benefit whatsoever.
I cannot argue with that logic, as a keyboard collector and reviewer it would be very hard to justify anything else!

Generally speaking, that only covers the letters A-Z, numbers and two symbols (comma and dot). There are many national layouts that are QWERTY but differ greatly in the placement of symbols and diacritics

I have expanded on this page and added pictures. I would be delighted if anybody wishes to review.
Would the article be more accessible if the page were titled "Kailh KO" as that seems to be the informal name given?

The assumption here is that stack height is not good. Why is that?
All other things being equal, it is better for the keyboard to be lower to the desk. We may look at youtube reviews of classic keyboards and think that your board needs to be unmanageably bulky to be taken seriously, like those ...

Are you sure the KO preceded the SteelSeries rather than the other way round? The wiki on the KO dates from 2017 and that for the SteelSeries is two years older. Whatever happened to the Kailh KO family? It has a hollow "light well" stem just like the Omron B3K, and stem that looks to incorporate Kailh's "Box" design. it seems to have arrived as a competitor to the Omron, so presumably able to refine on the design of the latter.

Re: Variable weighting, potentially analog switch interest check
I have previously spent an idle moment speculating as to whether a pneumatic 'spring' could be used in keyboard switches. This would make it very easy to adjust the resistance: simply adjust the pressure until you get a spring rate that suits, just like a mountain biker will tune their bicycle ...
