Just use a "Stabilo" pen cap (the hexagonal ones) to shove down the ring. Works way faster then shoving it down with something else, like a screwdriver.
Happy modding .

For anybody who's wondering what the line does: it takes a screenshot of the whole screen, feeds it into imagemagick, calculates 100-mean% value of the image in greyscale and feeds it into xbacklight, which sets the led backlight brightness on my netbook. I don't have this problem, simply because I ...

my hacky "anti-flashbang" solution
Heyho, switching between workspaces or windows might bring you from a dark terminal into a bright firefox - introducing pain in the eyes. Is there something around, not wasting so much cpu like this does: while true; do xbacklight -steps 10 -time 100 -set ` xwd -root | convert - -colorspace gray -fo...

You can get typos quite quick (i.e. triggered keys next to the pressed one), if you lower the sample rate in your controller. If I set the value for a detected keypress down to something like 6 successful scans, I get bogus keypresses due touching the other keys lightly. It's not only restricted to...

If you don't want to carry the board arround, installing a non-removable cable becomes an option. I'm quite happy with USB-B because the sockets can handle some abuse (and I didn't had any othe sockets around for testing the footprints). Using pure SMD sockets bears the problem to rip-off all connec...

seriously cool. That gap in the middle asks for a dim led behind a little frosted window :p We can try that :). The main idea was to use the space for a trackpoint. How do you access arrow-keys? Since I'm typing neo2, there'll be the arrow keys in the 4. layer on esdf, surrounded by backspace, del,...

I used a minimum spacing of 5mm. If you use 4mm, the keycaps will touch (they are 18^2mm). Feel free to use http://hannover.ccc.de/~imp/tasta-12mm.svg as starting point and http://hannover.ccc.de/~imp/tasta-12mm.nc (g-code) if you want to give it a try. Edit: It's both for a 2mm drill, following "on...

Since i own a freshly cleaned 1800 i'm very excited about your controller project. About the placement of the usb-ports: Hmm the 1800 has some very nice flat surfaces at the rear face, perfect for openings. You just shouldn't place the keyboard onto your laptop :P That's where there all the opening...

And another image of an freshly finished case, matrix and imptech v3 controller:
It's only missing a black capslock and small shift for the right side.
For some closeups of the modded case, see http://deskthority.net/workshop-f7/abs- ... ml#p101366 .

I have a mill and i'm going to try cutting some grids this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration! :) I'm a little concerned about the 14mm^2 holes; as i'm using a mill, it's tough to get sharp corners on inside pockets, and the cherry's have most of the "lip" on the corner. Did you have any trouble w...

Based on the idea to make a working keyboard with it: use MX switches and magnet rings (such stuff really exists :)), so the "bump" on the lower side of the switches doesn't matter that much (maybe cutting it off is an alternative, if one removes a little bit of the stem too). Then it's all a questi...

Heyho, experimented some days ago with abs and acetone too :). Like Findecanor said, using thin layers will prevent acetone bubbles to build up inside the drying abs. You can see the bubbles in the center of the filled arrow keyhole, after some sanding (wanted to use all the sludge I've got and appl...

Here we go, finished debugging the hub (looked like some bad solder joints or flux residue). 100_8136.JPG The small red wire is only for changing the "gang" mode of the hub to individual power and overcurrent protection (doesn't really matter, since it got the currentlimit on the incoming power line...

Looking nice there imp. I see you bought several. Might I inquire as to what they cost? It doesn't seem to be the same manufacturer as many of the other PCBs which are bought around here. About 11$ each (PCB+shipping+tax). What gave you the impersion of a different manufacturer? Solderstopmask colo...

Why USB 2.0, not 3.0? Because kicad doesn't make it easy at the moment to make impedance controlled tracks :/. So it would cost lots of time to make it right, or to screw it up in the end - that's why I went with 2.0 for this iteration. Oh, and I don't have any 3.0 devices around, so it doesn't bot...
