Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project

Appreciate the response Ellipse. Wasn’t necessarily meant as criticism - I did add this was from my perspective as priorities have shifted for me and it is an involved process, at least for me. Totally understand if I’m a bit more butterfingered than most. My take, to be fair to the product - when i...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project

My round 1 B104 keyboard had arrived a good while ago, but due to a busy life I haven’t had much time to get it fixed up. Gave it another go today after some new first aid kits arrived. Unfortunately for me, this has been a frustrating endeavour. Keyboard came with a couple of broken switches, unfor...

By the way, a bit off topic - but does anyone use covers for these? Anyone get a suggestion of a somewhat elegant way to cover the keyboard?

Do the stabilizers have to be pushed in all the way? I tried one and wussed out half way and already it was a nightmare getting it back out  :D
You want to push them in MOST of the way, then push the keycap down. Try not to depress it too hard.
Absolutely terrifying

Re: Building an IBM Model F XT cable?

Just to clarify, this is the soarer converter thingy thats 'all in one' so my input here is very minimal. However, I took it all apart, cleaned up the grounding ring, made 100% sure the little ring was around the screw to close up the case. Put everything together, got a lot of [/![/![/![/![/!...

Building an IBM Model F XT cable?

Hi all, I am having constant issues with my model F XT where it will just patch through repeats of keys (.................... mmmmmmmm). I've replaced all of the inside of the keyboard, so that leaves the Soarers converter and the cable. I have noticed putting force on the connections between keyboa...

Keys are supersmoooth and both the feel and sound is perfect. Even better than my XT and AT.
The F62 in paticular has such great heft and is easily the best keyboard I have owned.
If I can ask - how do you perceive the F62 to be better?

[WTB][EU] IBM Model F XT Cable

Hiya,

Looking to buy a 100% functional, in proper shape (cable not stretched etc) Model F XT cable. Mine needs to get pressured onto the soarers for it to make 'contact'.

Cheers,

Just how clean are the legends on those XT modules? only issue with mine is the "smudged" legends, although an unused module certainly wouldn't hurt.
Mine were totally bled out, yellowed. So beware.
Did you buy a used or NOS assembly?

I don't mind he modded it with another color, keyboard-layout, keycaps .. You can always reverse the mods and do you own mods. I have a Model F-AT, but decided to keep the old layout out of laziness. An unrestored F107 sells for 400 dollar , so 400 pound is actually not a bad deal.. Oh, to each the...

Yeah I saw it come and go with the opportunity to snag it. Not worth it IMHO. Painted it black, all original keys gone for a horrific set of unicomp keycaps / tacky DT esc key, no beeper, no footstand (although not 100% sure if these come with it), backplate not heat treated so likely a replacement ...

Re: Office-grade Cap. Buckling Spring (Quiet!)

Hmmz, good suggestion. But I'm not sure if I'd like dental floss all up in my keyboard :D

Also dampening the sound is one thing but getting it down to acceptable office levels is another.

Guess I'm more looking into an alternative switch with decent quality and similar feel minus the noise

Office-grade Cap. Buckling Spring (Quiet!)

Hiya, I'm loving capacitive buckling springs switches - but would need some that are allowed in an office; so quiet(ish). Doing a quick online check; I see zilents, topre, ... Anything out there that would last and fit the bill? Keep in mind; my thoughts of contemporary switches is (bought a Leopold...

not sure if I would like full plastic on the AT.
The AT still has the 2 internal of the 3 steel plates and probably weighs about the same as an XT.
