I have a set of the blank blacks and I like them quite a bit. They seem to be well made and of medium thickness. The texture is nice too. Not too rough and not too smooth. They're juuuuust right.

According to an e-mail response they use HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) for the cases at Unicomp. They couldn't say for sure what IBM used, but I tend to think it was not HIPS.

...and the keycaps are still PBT.

I just got a WASD v2 with MX greens and no caps for $95 pre-tax/shipping. With shipping it was ~$113. I added a set of Ducky PBT blank black caps to it and it's great!. I'm really surprised with the overall excellent quality and feel of this board.

I own or have owned Ducky, Filco, Leopold, HHKB ...

Now I'm really curious about the case composition. I know that I've read somewhere that it's PVC. After looking it up this time I see ABS. I'll have to shoot Unicomp an email and see if they know what IBM used.

I've tried colored keycaps on my boards and they just look terrible and are distracting to me. If you enjoy it then that's all that matters

I think some blank keycaps might work well though. I sure like the way my Otaku Leopold looks.

Nice find! I too just got a NIB SSK. You'd probably be miffed if you knew what I got it for. :) $360 is a little high but I'd pay it coming from this source. He has a great reputation. And you KNOW it's never been touched until he aquired it.

They are slightly heavier, but not much. I prefer blues myself. Browns are much less tactile.

I hope DT is treating you well Rip. GH is boring as hell now...and did they delete some other member forums besides yours? It seems like something else is missing. Maybe you just had such a massive "presence" that it felt like there were more member subforums!

This is the first one I've had and I like it. I've had a couple of Belkin in the past and they were always a little flaky and after testing the power on one I saw it was only putting out 3 volts!

I've used CyberPower Professional UPSs for years and they are high quality as well.

Did you get your Pi yet?

I've been using a Cyberpower USB hub to power and expand my Pi(s). Can't remember what my measurements showed exactly, but they were between 4.8-5.15v. Much better than what my HTC chargers were putting out.

I'm using a USB charger for HTC rated at 5v 1A and it really only puts out 4.76v and 700-800mA when I test it using this method.

Which UNIX OS are you going to use (not OS X)? Since most UNIX systems are servers - set up server. I'd suggest starting with Ubuntu Server (with no GUI) since they have tons of experienced people on their forums and they are glad to help. You really need to just dive in. Once you get the basics ...

Well, it works! I was going to take a photo, but the camera battery's dead. Preparing a bootable SD card was no problem (I chose the Debian install but the Pi downloads page has others), it powers just fine from a Belkin 1A USB wall charger, and the KBC Poker looks quite happy sitting alongside it ...
