Given my age, you might soon have to again apologize for what you yourself called a "cheap jab":

I don't have tools like that at my disposal so I couldn't try it. Don't see why it wouldn't work.engr wrote: 17 Nov 2022, 17:36So this method will not work on the PCB side?kelvinhall05 wrote: 17 Nov 2022, 17:22 The problem is PCB-side, not display-side. If you looked very close with light at the right angle you would see traces running in the glass.

Re: [Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
I have played with dozens of these calculators and they all fail in the same way lol.
Now that I'm looking at it... I don't understand how exactly this ribbon is electrically connected to the display in the first place. I am not seeing any connecting terminals on the LCD side, it's like it's ...

Re: [Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
The issue has nothing to do with capacitors. The conductive adhesive used to attach the display ribbon gets weak with age, effectively disconnecting the display. I've experimented with new adhesive but it's nearly impossible to apply it in a way such that no contacts are bridged but there's ...

Re: [Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
Sorry, best I can do is $50 try and replace electrolytic capacitors in the PCB and hope that was the cause of some calculator issues on Focus boards (which is what I am hoping to try within the next couple of weeks). Anything more complex than replacing components is currently beyond my comfort ...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
by the way, you could also try rewriting the original firmware on the original controller. assembly is not that hard, you can just watch a 12 minute and 33 second youtube video and it'll tell you all you need to know. for reference, here's the instruction set for the intel 8051, a derivative of ...

Re: QMK Powered Equivalent to Soarer’s Converter?
I'm not sure why you'd want to use a teensy, the 32u4 it has is quite slow and only has a measly 2.5k of ram. quite unfit for a keyboard controller! I suppose you could bit-bang a clock-divided (7/16ths) bus speed dual-duplex serial port on an stm32 though that could potentially bottleneck the ...

Exactly. Credit is due to Pandrew, all the contributors to QMK, and to Xwhatsit. We’re all using derivatives of his work, for better and for worse: namely the 32u2 at the heart of it.

32u2 is a bad chip. A true, new controller would dump that crap and go Arm or the like, and open up the software possibilities while also being cheaper and quicker to source!

I'm by no means a chemist but I remember learning about the cure profiles of friction materials and how it effected the formation of various surface molecules. They all behave differently, some tougher, some smoother, etc. It's a balance to get them correct for the application.
Chemical ...
