The number of any things of which a man might want more than one is limited by the WAF (Woman Acceptance Factor).
Unfortunately this value can vary a lot and is not necessarily stable.

Re: Going big…
Why not the eight-way arrow block as seen on the FK-9000, some Omnikeys, the Gateway 2000 Anykey, etc? Maybe even extend it 16-ways so we can finally have a "south by southwest" key (macro: down, down, left) Also, after looking at way too much stereo equipment of a certain vintage, a prominent "QUA...

Re: The mother of keyboard controllers - Up to 384 keys
The KeyWarrior100 chip would not fit onto a board with the footprint of a Teensy, the LQFP100 package is simply too big. Also you would have to drop almost all functionality, it has about 80 signals. But all the lines for the key matrix are on the connector to the left of the eval board, it is not t...

Re: Going big…
Is it hard to type over all those keys to reach the alphanumeric block? Actually it is beyond impractical  This is not a layout for working with it, it is just a test setup. Though I have gotten requests from people who would like to have such a sea of keys to control stuff, like music product...

Re: Going big…
You mean you built that keyboard just to test your keyboard controller? Actually I do keyboard controllers (and other peripherals) as a business. Our latest controller has a 24 x 16 matrix. The design target was to put as many options into the controller as possible. They get used in industrial and...

Re: Wood…
They did use CNC milling, but I have no idea how they treated it. These things did cost quite a bit, but the quality is really superb.
Re: Wood…
I did not make this myself, I supplied the electronics and that was my free sample :) So I was not questioning the choice of the wood. I have used that keyboard for a while on my Mac but ADB is a long gone interface. Could not convince myself to gut this unit and convert it to USB, so today it is ju...

Made from a single piece of beech wood. Key caps are at the positions where they were in the original piece. Cherry keyboard underneath with internal PS/2 to ADB converter (Mac version…). Keyboard - not the usual…
Technically this is a keyboard. IMG_2075.jpg Since MAME does use keys for many of the game controls and many of the classic arcade games had only buttons or digital sticks the easiest way to make it work was to drop in a keyboard controller. The stick and buttons generate the proper keys that are se...

Re: Rs232 trackball keyboard to USB
You are probably better off modifying the trackball to become USB native. Kick out the old stuff and put in a USB controller.
Serial really sucks for mouse functions as it is too slow.

This one had nothing to do with Siemens
The idea here was to type syllables, the position of the key blocks is somewhat related to the position of the letter in the syllable. The algorithm turning this into useful words was the part that got a patent.

The idea was to provide chip level solutions for input devices to allow manufacturers of...

OK, here is the full device. The name of the project was COSSMA (COmputer SchnellSchreibMAschine - Computer fast typewriter). It has no redundancy in it, just ruggedness, so it survives rough handling. You can literally drive a nail with it.

Re: Any Open Source Controllers out there?
What you said about the USB HID protocol and the buttons is interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks! I need to look into how I can make it so software can recognize the buttons as specific controller ones (although maybe that is not needed?). USB specifies a lot of detailed "usages" for control ele...

Re: Ch MVP Trackball
This definitely should be the Sun version of the Trackball Pro. I used to make all the ADB controller chips for CH Products and they definitely had a Sun version of the trackball. Apple never supported a serial mouse. At the time they switched to mini-DIN-8 for the serial port they also switched to ...
