Malfunctioning keys on bolt-modded IBM Model M
The repair on my 1995 Model M has run into an issue that needs the guidance of someone with more experience than myself in these boards. After replacing the controller board and cleaning up some liquid damage with a conductive pen, everything is working correctly as far as the electronics are concer...

Re: Did I just break my Keyboard? :-(
Mechanical failure on the switches' end would not produce such an error. I'd recommend checking things out with a multimeter on the affected PCB contacts. You could also try desoldering the keys that have issues and see whether the problem persists when bridging the contacts manually. Another possib...

Re: IBM Model M Screw, Nut and Bolt Mod
A friend of mine recently bolt-modded my old Model M. The old barrel frame was broken, so we ordered a new one from Unicomp. Some keys on the ZXC row (X, B and sometimes N) are registering two keypresses from time to time. What's causing this behaviour? Overtight bolts? Faulty membrane? Broken hamme...

Re: Keyboards in movies/TV series!
Huh?
You're right: the pod's chair has DataHands on the armrests.
What a coincidence: I was just reading about the DataHand on Xah Lee's website today.

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
A basic principal of capacitive and contact keyboard matrix design; rows and columns should intersect exactly once. If they intersect more than once, you will have two switches that produce the same result (at best) or two that do nothing (at worst). Your 121 key matrix will likely be 6 by 21 or 22...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
you're trying to fork a project forcing people to look at your very wrong stuff. I am not forcing anyone to do anything. Do you even understand what "forcing" means? with so many errors that nobody wanted to look at those drawings. Unless they are "nobody" to you, I already got feedback from wcass ...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
I just want to say this: thank you, thank you , DMA. And if he decides to use CS and will want it in custom form factor - I'll gladly design the PCB and even assemble the controller if he ships that PCB and components to me. See? I wasn't even aware of the existence of the CommonSense controller unt...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
An ortholinear layout would surely work if you use the model f flippers and barrels. You need a new pcb, a new controller and a new curved plate. That has always been my plan. This would be a very big task for anyone. If I can suggest something, wait for this program to succeed and then adapt what ...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
Unfortunately, that is not going to work. There are actually too many things wrong for me to go into it. I'll try to explain how to do it right in a future post. I would greatly appreciate if you could provide that some additional information on the correct way of bringing this design to fruition, ...

Re: (Model MF) Remodeling the Model M (aka.. the Mara)
I've been following this project for a while now and I thought this would be a good idea to give some new life on my existing Model M. I personally enjoy the standard IBM ISO configuration, but I thought it would be nice to have the same idea, except in an ortholinear layout, like this: https://i.im...
