Re: Help needed with Mitsumi Mini-Mech switches
Have true regular mini-mech typists actually been spotted in the wild? Or are they more of a hypothetical species?

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
The main attitude I want to convey is that due to their complexity, beam spring keyboards will always be an enthusiast project, not a set it and forget it type of keyboard. That makes sense. It was mostly lines like this one: When installing keys, be extremely gentle when pressing them into the mod...

Re: Beam Spring 104+SSK Reproduction Project! First Batch In Stock, Shipping early next year after New Model F Project
Some things from the product page that ... worry me a bit: Beam spring keyboards are new to most people – do not be scared to learn how to set them up and maintain them: Though both are capacitive keyboards with springs, beam spring keyboards are very different from Model F keyboards, so even if you...

Re: Dell A101W keys function intermittently
Okay, here are a few things to consider: * When you say intermittently, is it completely random or fixable by e.g. unplugging the keyboard, leaving it for a bit, and then plugging it in again? * Do they always work if you e.g. press hard? * What if you short the corresponding switch pins on the back...

Re: Does anyone else feel the lack of a fullsize option ruins the Model F repro?
I wouldn't want something that felt like it was about to fall apart which has been the criticism people have levelled at the Model M I have literally never encountered that criticism. :) More often, I read reviews such as this one that describes the original IBM Model Ms as "built like a tank". A r...

Re: GOOD Cherry MX Switches
For the original lineup of cherry switches, I like mx black and browns aren't too bad if they're not scratchy. I've tried a lot of clones but for tactiles I like the new badseed tactiles. They're pretty different from most mx tactiles out there and pretty snappy. What's special about them? Based on...

Wait... What??ArtyomTheMetroHopper wrote: ↑16 Dec 2022, 11:19As long as the Beamspring switches are reliant on a membrane it will not really be accessible as most enthusiasts don't know or have the resources to recreate a membrane for a custom layout.

I think you would find this post (and the whole thread around it) very informative: https://deskthority.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=10744&p=510348&hilit=fssk#p510348 It's not the only way of doing things, but should give you a good idea of what's required (as well as some excellent resources to build on!)

It has strong weaknesses And weak strengths? :D For what it's worth, after two years of use, my New Model F may still be the best keyboard I own , all things considered. And I own a few :D Or at least in a shared 1st place with only a few other boards. I'm still more fond of some vintage keyboards,...

Sometime later, their reputation improved as someone claimed if you lube them just right they come to life with aplomb. Hmm. Consider me skeptical. I actually bought a board with Mitsumi minimechs that had been lubed in that particular way. Let me tell you, the binding was awful. So in this case I ...

Haha, awesome project.
I recently QMK-converted a wheelwriter, but it actually still functions as a typewriter as well! Something about playing Quake on a typewriter seemed like a good idea at the time.

In TMK/QMK ADB converters, that key behaves just like any other. I have it mapped to open a calculator, for instance. Murium just gave one example use for it.

Re: IBM AT USB conversion
Hiding it in the case is, in a sense, even easier :P Then all you need is a pro micro (or teensy or RP2040 or ... ), a few stumps of wire and a soldering iron and you'll have TMK, QMK or Soarer's up and running in no time. (May be wise to also buy a few 1-2kOhm resistors, although you probably won't...

Re: IBM AT USB conversion
You can "daisy-chain" AT -> PS/2 -> USB with all passive adapters with no drama. The F AT will need an active adapter (/converter) in there somewhere, will it not? In fact, I just had to try it out: with passive AT->PS/2 (i.e. 5-pin DIN to 6-pin mini-DIN) and then passive PS/2->USB, the lights come...
