Keycaps mounted directly on the levers of microswitches is what you are looking for. In terms of smoothness, being ultralight, high actuation, and actuation tied with sound nothing beats the switches in my Microwriter . The tactility is very subtle though. It's a standard contact based switch, and works the same way as any other contact based switch, like cherry MX.
