So I'm thinking about trying my first build soon, and want some advice on some good beginner parts to use. Something cheap I can cut my teeth on, and not get too worried about making a hash of it. I may use the Aristotles from the crap Chicony board I got, so a reasonably priced de-soldering gun ...

Been looking for one of these for a while, but the closest I've gotten is a board with Futaba-style rubber domes. I bought one of the Chicony boards that has been found in the wild with Futabas, but unfortunately I got one of the Aristotle Cherry MX clone editions that was in pretty poor condition ...

Dell AT102W I bought NOS nearly a decade ago. Uses complicated black Alps switches.

This Chicony board really is a piece of junk. You can see the PCB between the keys, the plastic is so thin that it flexes like nobody's business (it's actually warped and I can't get it to bend back), and it just feels... cheap. Wish I'd never bought the thing now.

Fair enough, I added the entry myself.

Then someone needs to add that photo to the Aristotle Cherry MX clone page, because the photos on that page all have white shafts.

Ah well, back to hunting for a Futaba board. Closest I've gotten so far is a Sejin with Futaba-style membrane switches.

Just got a Chicony KB-5192. Was really hoping for Futaba switches, but I've got switches that don't appear in the list of known switches for this board. Can someone help me identify this?
