Re: Vintage Beamspring Switches not activating
Bang on the money. Don't feel like swapping out the foam yet, that feels like an all day project, but I cleaned up the PCB of the crumbs and it's a lot better now. Thank you

Re: Vintage Beamspring Switches not activating
No, actually spamming it repeatedly tends to prevent it. That sticking theory would actually perfectly explain what is going on.

Re: Vintage Beamspring Switches not activating
I know the answer is probably take it apart and check those switches but I'm desperately hoping there's something quick I can do without resorting to that. I'm a lazy bastard

Vintage Beamspring Switches not activating
Recently picked up a 5251, she's from December of 1979 and remarkably clean. I converted it to USB and have been using it for work, but occasionally a few of the switches don't activate when I press them. Like, they physically don't flip the pad, I don't hear the click even when fully depressed. Aft...

Thanks for the warning. I've been wanting to add them to the collection, now I won't be super trigger happy about it!

Damn, sitting on the tactile bump is how I type quickly... Well, guess it'll live in it's new box for quite a while

NMB Space Invaders actuate early?
I've been cleaning my keyboard pile and pulled out a board with clicky black NMB Space Invaders. Tried using it, but the switches all consistently activate on the top of the tactile bump. It's the only board with them I have, so I wanted to see if any other SI diehards have experienced this.

xwhatsit Beamspring Controller Help
I recently received my USB beamspring controller and can't seem to get it working. The IBM capsense USB util doesn't recognise there being a controller connected. I bought the controller new from Joe at Model F Labs. I appreciate the help!

Re: Hesitating whether to spend $1000 on a 6580 Beamspring
I recently spent 1000 on a pretty good condition 5251 and I'd say go for it. Beamsprings are getting more desirable and more expensive as a result. If you're on the fence, try to get a feel of them at a keyboard meet, but as long as that thing isn't rusted to crap you should have little issue sellin...

Re: Why aren't other old periphrals better than modern ones like keyboards
I think most peripherals can be better or worse whereas keyboards are different from each other. Mice, for example, have more accurate ways to sense movement. Keyboards aren't getting better or worse, they're changing. Some people prefer the feel of beam or buckling springs, others like the sound of...

Re: My Alps64 with orange SKCM is disappointing
I wouldn't be surprised if the case has a lot to do with it. I've compared the sound from my IIgs keyboard to an AEK and the ping is definitely less noticeable in the roomier AEK chassis. Every switch has their quirks, in my opinion that's what makes this hobby so great. I'm typing on a Model F77 ri...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
Alright I think the outdated VIA files are the issue. I'll try using the QMK layout generator here http://35.164.28.200:5000/#/xwhatsit/brand_new_model_f/f77/LAYOUT_all to create my desired layout Another option, if you're feeling adventurous, is to try Vial instead , which I've already built a cop...

Re: F62+F77 orders now open! New Kishsaver+Industrial Model F Keyboards
Hi, I tried to update the firmware to the VIA version. I followed the guide to the best of my ability but it's not outputting anything despite being picked up by VIA. What do? Was the keyboard working before you flashed VIA? ...oh, no. Just noticed something. In Ellipse's firmware ZIP archive, only...

Alright, I don't know what's going on but it always seems to deteriorate after a certain mount of time. I've wanted to get a desoldering gun for a while now, so maybe I'll get one soon and take the plate off to see what's going on. Thanks for the help guys.

Re: Best Clicky Switches You've Tried
I could see the whole micro being quite a characterful keyboard for a modern machine! I'm not sure honestly. I do like how the computer looks but it's too big for my desk (especially because I'd want a 104 key nearby with a 60% layout). Part of me wants to recreate Chyros's Project A and build a wo...

It definitely was a lot better before. It works well when first plugged in, so I tested it, thought it was good, and closed it back up. It deteriorated over a little gaming session so I opened it back up and fixed up the first job so now I just have to wait and see if it'll get worse again. Edit: 24...

Re: NMB RT101+ Key Issues
Resoldered the input pins on S17 and the problem keys started working a lot better. For a while the tab and 1 keys were linked to each other but that issue seems to have resolved itself after some careful prodding! In fact, this message was typed on the keyboard. Thank you all for your help.

Re: NMB RT101+ Key Issues
That's exactly what we needed. The problem column splits off after the ~ switch (S17), and all the switches after it in that column are not working, so if the ~ key is working correctly the problem will be either the solder connections on the right pins on that switch, the internal leaf which jumpe...

Re: NMB RT101+ Key Issues
I imagine those specific keys would share the same column on the switch matrix, check before 1 If you mean the ~ key, that one does work. Actually, I took it apart to test the continuity to see if it was something obvious and they seem to have gotten much better. If you have any advice for a more l...

NMB RT101+ Key Issues
I recently bought an RT101+ on eBay for a good price, but the tab, 1, q, a, and z keys don't actuate reliably. Sometimes they don't sometimes they do (especially if I mash them), and sometimes they chatter. Does anyone know how to fix this? I know very little about circuit diagrams but if someone ha...
