Re: Does anyone else feel the lack of a fullsize option ruins the Model F repro?

As an F77 repro owner, the things that bug after a year are the lack of a fourth column on the number pad and the lack of lights for the num and caps lock. I use my thumb on the bottom left key of the numpad to activate a layer that transforms the asterisks and 9 keys into minus and plus. I'm still ...

Re: How to install new Model F (F77) stabilizers properly?

The orientation looks correct (comparing to a photo I took of mine while I built it). There's no spring and flipper under there, right? I just used both my thumbs and gave it a good push. For one of the keys, I think I put the keycap on and gave it a good push. If all else fails, you can pull the ...

Re: A new Model F setup issue you haven't seen before

You're not wrong. They had a few minutes of QC each, as I recall from some IBM promotional video of the process in Greenock; shared here many years back so I can't remember where to look. This was done by well trained humans who gave every keyboard (and everything else they made) a specifically ...

Re: A new Model F setup issue you haven't seen before

It's tales like this that put me off ordering one of these directly. I know I'd be awful at fixing any issues, of which there seems to be quite a variety. Mind you, if anyone is already bored of theirs (!) or in need of the cash, I'd be interested in buying a ready-to-use one with all the bumps ...

Re: A new Model F setup issue you haven't seen before

So in the end you just earthed the plasma ball, right? ;)

Ha, yea, I banished the stupid ThinkGeek trinket to the closet.

Sounds exhausting. Great to hear it's working now! What went wrong with the two springs on the return key tho?

Yea, I kind of wish I'd gotten to assemble the whole ...

A new Model F setup issue you haven't seen before

Getting my new Model F setup was quite a task. The two barrels for the return key had springs in them, so I had to break the inner assembly apart and swap one with the blank for a stabilizer one row up. Then four keys were stuck on. Then three keys had a small input delay. My goodness the tolerances ...
