In VIA: go to the "Special" section, and find the "Any" key. Then it will let you type in raw key code hex values.
In Vial: just double-click the key, and type in the hex value.

So nothing 'magical' for those special QMK codes, too bad.

It has to be noted that Xwhatsit’s PCBs rely on 5V USB rail as a voltage reference. This is not only used to drive the columns but is also used as a voltage reference for the DAC that is setting the activation threshold. I'd need 4 comparator chips to do that instead of 2, but yes in theory it could be faster.
For now I have 640us taken to scan the matrix (can probably be faster later on), but I don't change the DAC value in between.

The PCB does have 16 columns and 8 rows and I am pulsing the columns, i'll see how it works as is for the moment.
