The early boards used wire stabilized keys which IMHO feel better than the barrel inserts.
You can replace the wire stabilized keys with the newer style barrel insert keys if you'd prefer or need to.

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
The archive's personnel mentioned that they searched for the earliest mention of the keyboard and found it on the brochure for the 1985 3161/2/3/4 Series of terminals. They were unable to locate any earlier brochures or materials offering the keyboard. I did get a copy of those sales brochures but ...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
It's nice to have a mention of "Keyboard G" in writing. As stated in my wiki , early Model Ms made by IBM UK could sometimes say "Model G" inside, so I always presumed IBM originally intended to continue its previous nomenclature.
I had asked the archive personnel to look for any subsequent ...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
So I contacted IBM regarding this board and though they did look for anything related to it (thanks to the IBM Corporate Archives), sadly their records did not include any documentation that could help identify the board. But I had the opportunity to receive some awesome documentation that adds to ...

Got this board of eBay recently and was expecting Alps but Instead I got Cherries. The layout is identical to the Unitek (NTC) K-258 not the Dah Yang version layout.

Re: Buckling Spring PCjr Keyboard
So, if I understand correctly , the barrel´s in the top part of the case do not have to modified to get this to work ? The wheelwriter key placement is the same as on the PCjr ?
The only cut on the WW5's barrel plate was on the left hand side (on my picture the 10 barrels with no keys ...

Re: Buckling Spring PCjr Keyboard
Looks awesome... except for the Windows logo, which seems out of place on that vintage looking board (but I guess I dislike seeing it on any keyboard)
Thanks. I have been considering replacing the new Windows key with the old (Win95) logo to make it look more timely accurate. I use it often for ...

Re: Buckling Spring PCjr Keyboard
Iam still curious about the components used.
Is the upper part just the normal PCr top shell or is it custom 3 printed ?
Also, which IBM (typewriter??) keyboard assembly did you use for the job ?
The case is an original PCjr but it has been significantly modified (top and bottom). The only ...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
I did some more measuring the PCB measures 205mm x 50mm (surface area).
Here are some images of the PCB area with the unused pads/holes. I have backlit the PCB (put some light behind it) so the traces can be better seen. I also added these pictures to the original album linked on the main topic as ...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
@clickykeyboards, the only details I have on the provenance of this board is I acquired it from ebay (2 weeks ago) and it was shipped from Coppell, Texas. The seller is an electronics recycler and had the board listed as an NMB keyboard, so I don't think he even knew what he had. I saw the markings ...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
I have to be honest I got over excited about it. I agree with you as both the features you pointed out were my first indicators on thinking the coating was not original in the first place. My initial goal was to remove the coating completely, but seeing another board with similar looks made me think ...

Re: Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
Thank you for this! It makes me happy knowing that the black covering is potentially original. The black finish and the missing piece in the bottom case will be professionally repaired in the future. I will once again look inside the case for that date stamp in case I missed it.

Help Dating a Silver Badge Model M
I just got this silver badge Model M (to pair up with my silver badge M122) but its lacking both the external sticker (birth certificate) and the internal stickers on the back plate.I know getting a definitive date will be next to impossible (unless IBM answers my inquiry with a date) but I want to ...
