Re: Wireless keyboard chip
Yes, ZMK supports the Nordic Semi chips. I think that is one of the driving-forces behind its adoption.

Re: I don't understand Das Keyboard
With assembly, I would think soldering a bunch of switches in would be cheaper than putting a bunch of hot swap sockets in. I don't think it is the cost of components but the cost of skilled labour that is dominant factor. All types of hot-swap sockets I've seen have been surface-mounted, and I thi...

Re: Wireless keyboard chip
I don't know what any of those keyboards are using, but my guess is that they could be newer models of ESP32 microcontrollers. They are inexpensive, widely available, popular and sourced from China, but it is only in the last couple of years that there have been ESP32 chips with USB PHY in addition ...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
There is a list in the Wiki , where it is listed as having "membrane switches", based on a conversation with a German distributor of TA typewriters . I suppose that could be some kind of spring-over-membrane switch: different types were common on mechanical typewriters. AFAIK, Triumph-Adler typewri...

Re: IDENTIFY THE KEYBOARD thread
Anyone knows what kind of switches the Triumph Adler Twen 180 plus typewriter uses? Found it at a thrift store, but i couldn't look underneath the caps to see for myself... They felt nice when pushed, linear mechanical, but i'm not sure what exactly. There is a list in the Wiki , where it is listed...

does anyone recognize the computer or if there is any way to confirm the model? I think the label says "CLONE" in red letters with the N and E being a ligature. The text below that is harder to see, but I read it as "TUENG PC". The thing to look for is an IBM PC clone case that has the label in the...

I agree on the thick lasered PBT. Not bad. It is what I've used on my daily driver for years now (and a bit shiny now). So please don't throw away!
Nowadays there are dye-sub and doubleshot thick PBT from other sources, but the same colour scheme and surface texture may not be available.

Re: Vintage Cherry smell
The most likely cause is that it was a PCB made of phenolic resin from which there has seeped formaldehyde over time. The smell still lingers in paper bags stored with the PCB only for a week or so. A mesh bag with the screw-in stabs and the spacebar-grey switch have been on the balcony to air out f...

Yes. The last part of the serial number should be a letter indicating the year and two digits indicating the week number.

Re: Vintage Cherry smell
I threw away the PCB. I think my other G80 keyboards have PCBs of a different material that is not made of (as much) phenolic resin. I got a tip on another forum that active carbon could absorb formaldehyde, so I packed some active carbon filter matting in the empty bottom of my G80-3000 which was t...

Re: Large amount of keyboards
I would advise you to not store anything with the cable wrapped around it. The cable is likely made of PVC with plasticisers which will eat its way into ABS plastic. If that is how they came, do check for marks. Overall, I think it is first the keyboards with mechanical switches in them that would b...

Re: Vintage Cherry smell
I'm sorry, I thought the whole PCB was what you meant. I will throw away the PCB. I have desoldered the Grey space bar switch, and unscrewed the screw-in stabilisers. I'm not convinced that vintage Cherry MX Black switches are worth saving. From another thread I've posted on a Swedish electronics-en...

Hmm.. At one time, I used to be doing silicone and resin casting, and pressure chambers are used to get the bubbles out of those materials before casting. But I never saw a pressure chamber large enough to fit a full-sized keyboard PCB... I smelled my other Cherry G80 keyboards. After several years ...

Hmm. The switch side still smells.... I'll let it air out for a while longer before I'll even think about putting it together again. Re: Vintage Cherry smell
I've cleaned the PCB. Still smells strongly. I have cleaned the case and keycaps separately. I put the PCB on the balcony to air. If it has not improved on Sunday, I'll seriously consider throwing the PCB with switches away... I could probably build a jig for the keycaps just for show, using a bag o...

Vintage Cherry smell
Last night, I took my old Cherry G80-0915 / Commodore PC-keyboard, (once showcased in this thread ) out of storage to look at it. It had been in a plastic bag to protect it against its attached cable, inside a cardboard box. It smells like old electronics, but ... incredibly strongly. It reeked, of ...

Re: Low profile 3-key keyboard for Cut/Copy/Paste
It isn't just the footprint and keycaps, but also that hot-swap keyboards (such as this one) use plate-mount and that the height of the plate above the PCB is fixed (to 5.0 mm). But hey, the Tecsee Medium seems to have a bottom housing that is the same height as MX! It took me a while of searching t...

Re: Low profile 3-key keyboard for Cut/Copy/Paste
No, there exists no key switch that is lower in profile that will fit into hot-swap sockets for Cherry MX - compatible switches. Only Cherry MX-compatible switches of that same size will fit. The closest thing I think exists ready-made or in kit-form might be a "Macro-pad" with low-profile "Kailh Ch...

Re: I messed up. Please help.
You'd have to find out which trace it is that has been cut, and solder a small wire to to bypass it. If the firmware is QMK, then the source code should be available and tell you the matrix. Then from that matrix, you should find out which solder pads should be connected. Verify those by checking wi...

Re: Filco re-soldering project - worth it?
There is a risk of damaging a pad while desoldering using a soldering iron and solder wick.
If you could borrow a desoldering gun, I believe that would be a safer option.

Re: Repairing ALPS keycaps with broken stems
If you have used superglue, and it breaks... then you can't glue it back together again. You'd have to remove all glue residue.. which is practically impossible unless you scrape it off under a microscope. "Plastic glue" is based on solvents. These solvents work on ABS but not on PBT. When you press...

Please don't create three threads just for promoting your product like you did on Geekhack. The bottom row is different in the product images. The case design in the last image is unlike the others. Tray mount? On standoffs or something else? No plate? No hot-swap. No programmability? No ISO. If the...
