Re: How feasible is it to acquire an AT&T 56k 460 ACW for daily use?
Hi, 1) I can't help you that much on prices. I had a few that were somewhat dirty that I sold for about $50 not including shipping. I am not sure what any others have sold for, but I imagine a clean example would go for quite a bit more. 2) I am this Ben person so I can help you with the converter s...

Re: Custom Space Invader Keyboard - God Layout?
I see, it did have quite a few issues. It is unfortunate that recyclers often cut the cables on keyboards. Btw, I noticed the one "bodge" wire. There always seems to be one on the first go

Neat custom pcb. Unusual layout for sure. What was wrong with the Tandon? I'm sure it could have been fixed. They are pretty uncommon

Re: [Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
Apologies for the lack of updates. May was unexpectedly busy. I am still moving forward on this when time allows. I will be building the new pcb revision this weekend and have made the majority of the code updates that will be required. Hopefully I will have a working demonstrator soon.

Re: Contest - $20, 48 hours - Guess the keyboards/terminals
You can use a mild abrasive like fine sand paper or steel wool. It may scuff up the soldermask a bit but won't damage if you don't over do it. You can also try a bit of vinegar and salt solution on swabs to carefully clean just the copper parts. You will then then to wipe with alcohol to remove any ...

Re: Liberty / Morrow BT1200A-1 review (SMK J-M0404 vintage linear)
When it passed through my hands, I took a peek and if I remember correctly, this used a simple serial protocol that sent ASCII character codes. This was pretty common for basic "dumb" terminals as which relayed ASCII data from the keyboard to the host and displayed ASCII data received from the host.

I like the look of this quite a bit. It has a nice shape, especially the sloped portion that fits under the front of the terminal. Hope you get it working

Re: [Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
I feel like the offset display would bug me, although with a color matched piece of plastic or the like, that could be severely reduced. The extra resolution of the no mod I feel like wouldn't come in as useful since it appears there no PC interface? Static logo/time/calculator I would assume would...

Time for a long overdue update. Take a look and please share any questions, concerns or feedback you have. "No mod" display I received the display that is a candidate for use with out modification of the case. The good news is that with a bit of light sanding, the display does fit in the existing op...

Re: [Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
A quick status update: From the responses, I plan to move forward without offline availability to simplify both design and installation. I have located a display that I think may work without modifying the case and have ordered a few samples. I will update this thread after they arrive and I test th...

[Interest Check] FK-5001/9000 calculator replacement
Background Some time ago, I developed a replacement for the stock, failure prone calculator module in the Focus FK-9000. This project was essentially a "two" off that I made for myself and Chyros. You can see the module on Chyros' youtube channel in his "Project F" at around the 10:30 mark . In the...

Re: IBM System 9000 keyboard and picture of unknown Model F
Nice work on the research! I really wish more of these would turn up in the real world. I imagine the total number made was low and the due to their research/lab usage they didn't end up in the normal computer recycling pipeline when retired

Not sure I follow. What do you mean by "US English" layout being supported by ASCII? ASCII predates pretty much any keyboard layout.

Those are quite nice. I think it is actually an HTX-10, H for Heath. Same as the Zenith ZTX-10, Z for Zenith. They are neat little terminals.

Re: Have any of the selectrics ibm turned into old computer keyboards been found in the wild/alive?
There was a specific model called the "I/O Selectric 731" that was produces with all the electronics and hardware to interface for both input and output, hence the I/O tag. There are few pics here: https://www.vaxbarn.com/index.php/other-bits/362-ibm-731. Some of this was used in the later Selectric...

Hypersphere's instructions are excellent. I will add that I find having some foam swabs in addition to cotton ones is useful as they come in several sizes and don't leave fibers on sharp edges. I find these small ones are useful to get in the narrow areas and crevices. https://www.amazon.com/Semi-Fl...

Re: Making a Secure Keyboard
Some of the teensy boards have a microcontroller with a small amount of eeprom (1K), which is persistent, but no other persistent memory. More could be added by connecting an external eeprom or disk storage such as an SD card.
