I'm of the opinion that you can only tell how good a company is by how they cope with when things go wrong and they are being extremely helpful and accommodating.

Just don't tell webwit.

They missed the bolts from my case, and they're sending me a set free of charge, which is what I would expect ...

in Chrome I can't use shift+key combos

Why can't you? Can't reach the keys or the keys don't do what you programmed them to do?

I think it's just how the keypresses are handled in the UI. For example, I want to assign a colon (not a semi) to a key on layer 1. I click on the key, then press ...

Huh! What a good contribution to the project from MD. I've only seen screenshots of UIs from people on GH, so it's nice that there's an option people can use.

Although in Chrome I can't use shift+key combos. Ah well.

Well said TDub. That was a factor for me at first, but I did decide to trust two members (7bit and bpiphany) with my money to get my ErgoDox prototype parts even though they could have said "go fuck yourself" and I would have had little recourse.

I think this is a good community and hopefully ...

Even if massdrop had a legal or consumer-friendly ToS, there is still the fact that group buys should be done between the suppliers and us, without some commercial group buy organiser in-between.

And as I've said before, I too think that arrangement would result in a better experience for those ...

As to #3, threat of litigation does prevent them from being shitty *if* they are rationally self-interested, much in the same way that negative customer feedback does.

As to #7, there is a big leap between the language in contracts and the practical implications. Hence ToS-dr.info .

I don't think shitty terms are ok because you might be able to fight them in court. It's really not a very good argument.

You don't need to fight them in court - the mere threat of litigation keeps them in line. If Massdrop is acting in their own best interests, they won't risk breaking the law ...

Your lawn mower can say whatever he likes, but you can call the cops if he fucks up and then doesn't fix it. @damorgue - US contract/ToS law is complicated, making it hard to decipher the language in an agreement without a lot of qualified research or by speaking to a lawyer. @TDub - if you DIY your case then it could definitely be cheaper, but I doubt we're ever going to see a cheaper case with a mounting plate than $80 until we get to hundreds of units produced. If you use PCB-mounted switches, then the costs could be brought down and your case options expand.

webwit, you're right in that we don't know the true price of shipping and shouldn't presume. It might be the US subsidizing EU shipments, or it might be the EU subsidizing the US shipping. Without calculating true shipping costs, there's no way to pass judgement either way.

The Massdrop design is based off of litster's design, which has a mounting plate.

7bit might do a GB later, and someone in the US could do a GB of the other Massdrop(s) to make complete kits to save on shipping costs. MD has free shipping to the US, so it wouldn't add any cost other than time.
