Is that tape actually conductive, though, or metallic with a non-conductive coating? I've read comments on how the paint wears off relatively quickly, so the jury's out on that at the moment. As for the rubber itself, pressing down really hard on the key activates the switch, so I'm guessing that wh...

Query: Repairing conductive rubber pads
Does anybody know how best to repair the conductive rubber spots on the underside of rubber domes? This is the 'rubber dome over PCB tracks' type, no membrane involved. I've seen various claims online about sticking foil to them, rubbing pencils on them, using conductive paint, roughening the surfac...

Here's a better overview, though it lacks many characters. Looking at the symbols, I'd say we're still looking at Formula One as the Cherry typeface, though the question mark appears lighter on the keyboard. Perhaps variations in the weights at different sizes account for that? http://69.89.31.185/~...

I tried to look up the Formula 1 typeface, but I can't find any evidence that it exists — I wanted to compare characters such as ~, ? and # to see if they also match. http://www.sanskritweb.net/fontdocs/letraset.pdf Evidence, but not a full set :( Further, this page about the Doctor Who titles indi...

Cherry keycap typeface identification
I couldn't find a reference to this in the wiki or the forum, but maybe I didn't look hard enough. Anyway, I've been looking at a lot of old typefaces lately, and came across "Formula 1". It's similar to Helvetica Rounded, but has the tail-less "G" and short-topped "5" that makes me think this is Ch...

I've gone from Cherry blacks to BS to blues to browns to reds... mainly typing, less gaming these days. My entirely subjective and non-scientific findings are that reds are the ones I like typing on most, blacks for games. Blues are more an occasional thing for me now, I ended up disliking the actio...

I wonder why nobody seems to have considered: if you can indeed travel through time while in the exact same spot in space, you'll most likely end up floating in space somewhere (and die from explosive decompression a second later). Everything is in constant motion - the Earth revolving, orbiting th...

That also means that in 2019, LA will have an upturned Millenium Falcon buried in its architecture. And ten years after that, we're sending Reece back. Reece? Keep playing those games. We've embedded subliminal training routines. Never know when they'll come in handy. Actually we know *exactly* when...

Windowed cap source?
After trawling a few component suppliers here in the UK, to no avail, does anyone know of a place that stocks single-unit windowed MX-compatible caps? Profile is not an enormous issue as this is for custom projects, not an existing keyboard - but preferably something reasonably generic, no legends, ...

Hmm, so this is from the "strange skies" episode. Anybody recognise the computer? (starts around 2:40) I thought originally it might be a TRS-80 Colour, but it doesn't have the right keys. It does have the layout of an Apple ][, but not the colour or nameplate. Some clone or re-brand? IN1yvdYx0HU Sc...

There are several high-visibility and large-print keyboards available and they are indeed aimed at the visually impaired. This is not pretty by a long shot, but it's not the worst one out there. I think the biggest problem with it is the high contrast black-on-white scheme - most of the visually imp...

Arthur C Clarke's Mysterious World... of old keyboards :)
I used to love this when I was little. Some good HP desktop calculator action in there (9100 series?) early on, and a rather amazing display of cutting edge graphics and communication tech around 5:00 - 6:00 ;) rWzwlUzO2cE There's some great data entry action shots in another episode, but I can't fi...

I make do with a fairly crappy cheapo Antex iron at the moment, but I can certainly recommend some solder wick - Soldamop comes on reels of various lengths and widths. Get some of that and don't look at the cheaper stuff. Personally I don't like solder pumps, I find them unwieldy. I'm faster with wi...

"Pearl white" is off-white, yep. It's the standard IBM key colour as far as I recall from my time with a Unicomp. These look like "white" white. TBH I find hard black and hard white too strong a contrast; vintage Cherry DS not-quite-white is white enough for me against a dark surround. But these hav...

Nice review, thanks! I've become increasingly frustrated with the trailing wire on my current main keyboard (I often move it around to clear desk space), so this might fit the bill. I don't have much experience of BT keyboards, but the one I use with my tablet takes time to wake up and there's a def...
