Oh, duh. Sorry, I think I needed more sleep! I'm not sure what component of the converter is not "KVM safe" - it may be the high-speed mode or something else. In BIOS mode, as an example, it's especially bad- if you press a "nonstandard" key, the keyboard stops working entirely. Anyway, off topic at...

Soarer - any idea why upgrading to the new beta firmware would cause the keyboard to not work at all? hid_listen doesn't even show the converter initialize. It's detected, but there's no communication. Reverting to 1.10, all is well. Also, any movement toward a KVM-friendly option? The hard connects...

I wanted to add this to the Soarer list as well- version 2 of my conversion. The guts are IBM, but the case is Unicomp- it had the LED holes and the sticker already. I reused the controller board inside solely for the LED mounting points. The rest inside was dome-switch junk. I redid all the P-touch...

They do have a set of keycaps with media symbols on them, but they're dedicated: http://pckeyboard.com/page/Buttons/MEDIA The way they do keycap printing doesn't lend itself to custom work unless you're going to pay them a ton of money- their dyesub printer is really all about printing in volume. Yo...

I'd have to dig it out of a bag of several hundred caps, but if I find it I'll send a picture. Just think of the "Print Screen" (which is on two lines) shifted down by a line of text and no front SysRq. When you put it next to the Scroll Lock it looks really bizarre. On the full 101 printed set I di...

Thanks, I'm aware of the limitations of what Unicomp can do with the technology they have on-hand. I asked them if they had a "Print Screen" key and they said they could make one- and I get it and all they did was shift the normal Print Screen/SysRq down so that the SysRq didn't print on it. As a re...

Custom printing Model M keycaps
I searched around and really couldn't come up with anything interesting. I have a P-Touch with a computer interface, and I've printed up essentially stickers to overlay on blank keycaps. It works and is certainly cheap, but what (if anything) have you done to come up with something a little more pro...

Incidentally, I tried a Soarer-enhanced keyboard on a KVM (Avocent switchview DVI) and the keyboard won't initialize. If I use one of the "hub" ports, it works but no response via the keyboard console input. The LEDs light up and then go out, and that's all I see happen. Other keyboards work fine, s...

Yes, everything is in good order. I need to move some barrels around, take out a couple of spring assemblies from where they're not needed and drop a hammer-spring assembly into the spot where the \ key should be in order to make the ISO-122 into a US-layout. Looks like I'll have to do it the hard w...

It does have a PCB. It's not clear if it's a "smart" or "dumb" controller. Looks like you'd need two interrupts to decode/debounce a bare encoder from the code I've been looking at. I think the encoder you've pointed out is the better way to go. Here's what I think makes sense: you need 8 inputs to ...

Soarer, I have on order a rotary encoder that's designed for arduino usage, so perhaps it'd be an easy retrofit. The analog pot is a pretty interesting idea though I tend to think the rotary's pulses would be much easier translated into HID keypresses, but I'd certainly be curious to try an analog v...

Replacing a hammer on a Model M
I'm making a custom 122 keyboard, combining some 102 key caps in order to make the main layout as "normal" (to me) as possible. The spot where the \ key would go has no hammer, but the membrane is there and it registers when pressed. Is it possible to get a hammer into there without disassembling th...

Soarer, thanks for this. Hacked up a Model M 122 terminal keyboard and I'll probably spend a month or two trying to figure out the best way to remap all these function keys. What do you think about the possibility of adding a rotary encoder to the Teensy to act as a volume knob that triggers the Med...
